Just finished installing it tonight. I took the banks box out of the truck. The banks compares to the edge inbetween level two and three. I don't get as much boost with the edge as I did with the banks. On level five I pretty much peg the pyro at 1250 pretty quick. The cars behind me dissapear also. Its nice to have all the extra gauges too. I can see myself getting into a lot of trouble with this box.

Now it would appear I need a different turbo. Any recomendations with my set up? I already have a 14cm housing if that helps any. I want to be able to run on 5x5 all the time and keep my egts safe.

That sounds familiar!

Pius built turbo! No smoke and you wont see 1200 doing 120mph. Injectors (small) make a touch of smoke but a 5" in leu of 4" reduces pressures makes smoke little wisps

What kind of turbo is this?

I was just out havin' fun and I really cannot use level 4 or 5 without having to let off the skinny pedel. I have my max boost at 40 and my warning at 36, and my egt warning and defuel at 1250. On level 5 I can hit both pretty fast. On level three I can hit my egts also. It actually pulls strong on level 2 on the top end because it never defuels. On level five in lock up at wot I can hit my my boost warning before I hit my egt warning.

What is the max boost you can throw at a Hx35 with a 14 housing?

What setting do you guys run? Do you have these problems?

I wouldn't try to go no higher than 40psi boost, It can cost you a head gasket. I am surprised to hear that the banks is comparable to the edge on low settings. When I switched from the banks to the comp... I couldn't believe the difference. It was like a new truck. I ran 90 hp sticks with my comp & never had egt issues with the stock turbo on 5x5. It would get to 1300 only @ 100+ mph.

I wonder why I am having egt problems then??? Our trucks are very similiar. The 1. 6's are only 95 hp. Mabye I need to change my air intake. I am using the stock box with the k/n that came with the banks. Plus I have not cleaned it in about 40,000 miles.

Get rid of the K&N quick! Youll find thier not too popular on this site. You should look into afe intakes, I have one and like as well as many of the people on this site does.

You may want to take your radiator/intercooler out & pressure wash them. It made a difference on my truck by about 150 degrees. I am just throwing some ideas out. If you do the afe..... go stage 2. I think that would help, but I'd start with the pressure wash. If you do this... try not to damage the fins. Be careful

That sounds like a good idea. Exactly what does that entail. How long did it take you?

I recently added an Aurora 2000 with an ATS 3 piece exhaust manifold and Arc Flow intake and went from 361 RWHP to 452. My egts always had gotten up to 1250 on accelleration and at the track could easily go up to 1500 in the 1/4 mile. Now they stay well below that and while towing a 2500 lb trailer over the Rockies could not get them over 1150 no matter how hard I tried. i am running 100hp sticks and the edge comp. Usually on the 3 setting, cause it's so much fun. Ya it makes smoke, but I can turn down the sub settings and clean it up if I want but then it isn't quite as responsive.

On a side note, this months issue of TDR has a great article on turbos and shows the difference between the stock turbo bearings and the Aurora 2000's. The Aurora has bearings that spin inside the housing and the shaft spins inside the bearing so the shaft contact point can spin essentially at half the speed of the stock turbo. I also think it has a nice sound to it and performance wise it is awesome. Still get 19. 9 mpg too. Doing the math. I can't believe I waited so long to upgrade the turbo. :D :D :D :D

It takes about 2hrs, but I pressure washed the engine & painted it. I would do a fluid flush while you are at it. I like the ht 62/14 turbo on my truck, but I am changing to the super for lower egt's. I really like the htb2 spoolup though..... It is comparable to the hx35.

I just went out and turned off the warnings put it on 5x5 and the most I hit 1450egt. After a quarter mile run it smelled a little hot, kind of like burning plastic. But that went away and everything runs fine. I wonder how many times I can do that before something melts :D

I ordered a Afe stage one so hopefully that will nock off a few egts... .

You can do that a lot of times. It is sustained EGT that will get you. A short run down the 1/4 mile will give you very high EGTs but they are not sustained so you would not likely melt anything. Fun isn't it????? :-laf :-laf :-laf

I did that on a 6. 0L and it quite running for about an hour :-laf

How difficult is the tapping of the wires on the VP44??

Tapping the pump is a real pain and you need to be very careful that you don't accidently cut the wire. Do not twist if you are using a tap or it can cut through the wire as well as the insulation. I used the "Stealth Cover" on my 02 instead of tapping the wire like I did on my 99. It is much much easier and I think less likely to have issues with moisture etc. down the road. You can order them for around $60. I think I got mine from BD but you can search and I am sure they will have them at lots of places. :D
