I have been reading a lot of forums about power upgrades, and I just want some opinions on some setups a want to do for my truck. I have a 2002 HO six speed. I tow around 10000lbs. about 4 times a year. The rest of the time I am empty. I was set on getting with Edge Comp box, with DD3's. But I have read some good things about a Drag UFM, and also TST PM3. Which of these are the best performance wise and bang for the buck? Also are the EDM Mach 3's as good as the DD3's? My last question is whichever combo I decide on, would a dodgezilla turbo flow enough air? Or do I need to look for something like a B1B?

thanks for all the help

Don't forget the FMS

If you don't have gauges yet the FMS from Blue Chip may be a way to go for you. It has gauges built in and can fuel as much as any other box, but you also need a timing box to go with it to equal the Drag Comp from Edge or the TST PM3 Comp. I have the Drag Comp from Edge and like it very much, it is compact also. I may be going to the FMS very soon for the extra features it has like max reading recall. It is ugly as can be but the extra features make up for it I hope.

We have used the Edge and it does perfom very well. Another option for power gains you can tow with is the Banks Big Hoss which can be programmed for up to 160hp and 317lb-ft. The Big Hoss uses EGT and Boost readings for its fueling and will defuel if EGTs get high. The Banks won't give you quite as much low end seat of the pants feel as others, but it does produce plenty of additional power.

The TST Powermax is also available with a remote with built in gauges. I have a Powermax 3 stacked with a Van Aiken timing box and I LOVE IT. The Van Aiken seems to give power on the bottom end. I can not speak for Edge, or the DD UFM, but I have not heard any complaints from either. TST gives great customer service as well. As for the Mach 3 EDM injectors, from my understanding they smoke less than a DD3 but produce the same power. (A Mach 3 will smoke like a DD2). The EDM injectors will be a little more expensive, but they are what Im saving my money for. I talked with Rod at Wildcat Diesel today and I believe Im going to add a B1 and Mach 4's to my Powermax3 and Van Aiken. Keep in mind if you are towing you will need guages, a bigger clutch and bigger exhaust.

Hard to know what to tell you. You have to decide where you want to end-horsepower wise. That's hard to do without adding some HP and THAN deciding if you need or want more. If you can pick a target HP, you'll get lots of excellent (and specific) advise.

Because you don't tow very often, you have more options.

Only way to make a good guess at where you want to end up is to do your homework. Read ALL the threads till you can read between the lines and see which owner and which set up matches where you think you want to be!

And, sorry to say, you will probably guess wrong! Don't know anyone who got it exactly the way they wanted it the first time around... mainly because what you want changes.

Example: Dodgezilla will serve you well up to about 375 hp +/-.

Will that be enough???

All the boxes you mention give great power-shop around for best price.

EDM Mach 3's have less smoke than DD3's and, I think, more HP.

Both will smoke a lot; How much smoke can you live with at your elevation (you don't list where you live)?

Only two options I know are start small & build till your happy... or... study hard and take best guess!

Good luck!

If 400hp is your goal

An better intake system, bigger exhaust, A fueling box of your choice, edm 3's, will get you there, but you will probably need a bigger turbo to keep it cool and most definatly will need a clutch. As far as turbos I don't know about the B1 or other ones out there, I have a PDR HX40 and it is almost keeping up with my set up on the street, hook to a sled and it does not keep up with the load and fuel.

I would recommend;

Gauges first-Pyrometer a must

Scotty II Air In & 4" Exhaust

Edge Comp or DD UFM

EDM Mach 2 or Mach 3's

Cleveland Clutch (before you exceed level 1 on the Box)

KSB-1B to Match the fueling (and room to grow into Twins down the road (probable the high hp wave of the future).

My goal, starting out was 400 hp - till I found out what 340 (at the rear wheels) felt like empty. You may end up wanting 500 hp?

To each his own... If you get a chance, drive a couple of bombed trucks.

In any case, I believe the above will serve you well at hp levels up to 450-500. This is feedback from what I've read-I'm not promoting what I have. Others will kick in with differences, I'm sure.
