Edit Signature

When I recently removed a few words from my signature and previewed it, I received this message "1. Your signature can not be longer than 400 characters including BBCode markup. " I'm confused becasue I removed 3 words that were already there and the color for them. It's not like I was trying to add words.

It's probably a difference in the way this version calculates signature lengths. In the old version it was a hack that I made to the software to restrict the number of characters. In this version it's a built in function.

I'm still looking for a good spell check - none has appeared thus far.

Steve, Seems you always come to my aide with the questions I have. So, I guess if I ever want to change my signature (make it different) I'll have to shorten it? Bummer.

When did you originally enter your signature? I just counted the letters and you have over 1,000 characters in your signature with the bb codes. That should have been WAY over the limit that the system has been checking for since June of 2002. At that time we instituted a limit of 300 characters although we actually set it to 350 to allow for some url's, etc. You shouldn't have been able to enter a signature anywhere near the length you have after that time. We limit the length of signatures so that people aren't reading the same long line each time, we also allow an unlimited length for the truck profile so that if people want to read more then they go to your profile page and can read your entire truck profile - pages long if you want. So the short answer is yes if you want to edit it you'll have to shorten it significantly. The system will allow 300 visible characters and up to 450 characters including the tags.

Steve - I joined in July of 01 and have tweaked my signature along the way I added all the links within the last 8 months. Within the last month I entered the "soon to be" in red because before it was "want 64/14 and Don's 5s". I didn't realize I couldn't change it anymore when I tried to change it after I ordered the new Turbo and Sticks, like a week ago? I guess if I lost the colors that would allow the links to remain and change other things? 1000 characters! Wow.

The links are probably what's taking up most of the characters. An easy way to check it is if you use microsoft word you can cut and paste it into word from the edit signature screen and pull down the tools menu to word count - that will tell you how many characters you have.
