New Server Seems Sluggish

When I try to edit my options I get this error message:



"ADMINISTRATOR: You MUST revert your modifyoptions template. "



I'm not trying to change my options very much, I hope I don't get marked for death by trying to change my options or anything like that. I tried to e-mail this under the 'contact us' link and got 3 undeliverable error messages, d-min or phurd guys running this site? I hope someone from TDR will see this message and attempt to help. I guess I could chime in about the search function also, what about setting the default on the search forum to all open forums?

:mad: Does anyone in a tech support capacity ever watch this board or does the service stop once the membership check has cleared the bank? At least the Dodge dealer answers the phone when I call.

As much as I would like to help, I can't help you with that problem. I believe that one might be something only Ken can answer, and I will post this thread to where he will see it hopefully. Keep in mind he is only a part time consultant. Robin and Robert Patton are on Vacation until Monday.



First off when you try to change things are you logged in? Have you tried logging out and then relogging in?



All the help I cam offer at this time... ... sorry.



Which email did you try to use, I mean what address?



The search function is constantly being "improved" and the "All Open Forums" is NOT the default for a specific reason. Once the equipment is upgraded it "might" be changed but that again is not my department. Too many searchs results in "Server Too Busy" messages..... and also same reason the "30 Second Rule" is applied. Supposed to be getting new server equipment with Dual Processors I believe.



Does this answer your questions or help? I see your post has only been up for one day, please consider it is the weekend and there are only 5 or 6 moderators and one part time adminstrator and then Robert and Robin Patton... who are on vacation... yes they have a life too . . (I think) :D



So in a case such as this it might be Monday before you get a reply like you are looking for. A little patience is apprciated.

I'm not sure what e-mail address I sent to but it was the one under the 'Contact Us' link and I got the undeliverable message back from my mail server. If I am able to come up with a problem such as this then there must some sort of problem. Please help.

Try this address Webmaster and send a message. Tell me if it comes back undeliverable.



Unfortunately there is nuthing I can do to help you at this time. If I could I would... ..... and the other part of it is I am leaving for work as we speak, so I won't be home till tommorrow morning about 8am.



Do you get that message any and everytime you goto your Options?



Have you logged out and relogged in? Then tried User CP, Edit Options? Can you edit your profile?



As I said leaving for work, so I can't respond until tommorrow morning.
 
Thanks for your help Kat. I just tried to edit my options again before I replied or e-mailed the webmaster and it seemed to work this time.

Oops! I found the problem

Hyde, I just got my e-mail to the Webmaster returned as undeliverable. I'll figure out what the problem is and get it corrected asap.

Here I am....

Last week 2 of the TDR office staff were on vacation plus I took off most of Friday to spend with the family (wife and daughter just got back from visiting the grand-parents and I haven't seen them for a week). TDR is not a huge operation with several full time people handling support.



Anyway, the error message you received is due to one of two things: taking more than 900 seconds to complete changes or a bug in the code. I have since patched the bug this morning so that part of the issue is resolved.



As to the undeliverable message, the server uses orbl.org to filter out known spam sources and "open relays". Apparently, orbl.org got some bad ips in their system last week and flagged alot of good ips as bad. The result is some good mail got blocked out by our server along with the bad. The orbl.org filter has been removed until they can resolve the issue. Mail should now be deliverable.



Concerning the search... . since most searches are about specific things found in a single forum, it wastes system resources (which can be very precious when you have 150+ people using a computer at the same time) to search all the forums every time. The user can select the forum they want to search or all forums so its really doesn't impact the user's ability to search but it has been very beneficial to the server performance.

I added myself to the travel companion and screwed up the first attempt. I wanted to edit it but didn't see a way to do it. If you get a chance could you delete the one that does not have the phone Number.

John, I tried to find the entry you wanted deleted, but I could not find it.



Yesterday, we had a problem with the software that powers the Discussion Forums and a patch/fix had to be done. We may have lost the post you made.



If there are still 2 entries for you in the Travel Companion that I just cannot find, point me to the correct state (I checked Indiana). Then I'll get it fixed pronto. Or e-mail me directly at rpatton@ix.netcom.com.
