Yes. the ecm changed, as well as the entire module/wiring communication protocol, which went from SCI in 2005 to CanBUS to 2006 and up.

Nope...thought there is someone on another forum who has figured out how to wire a 2003-2005 truck engine using a 2006 ecm and wiring harness only for the engine, while the existing ecm and harness run all of the other truck functions, then he can use EFI live runing on the 2006 ecm to program the 2005 engine....apparently it all works quite well with no real problems.

While I also have a 2005 and have been waiting patiently to run EFI, we might well be waiting a LOOOOOONG time (or forever) Another more then decent option is to run Smartys UDC, which while not as extensive programming capablilities as EFI, DOES allow some deatiled control over engine software parameters. AH64ID, a member hear and on other forums, has been tuning his truck with UDC, and really likes what it does for his truck. I wll move to UDC next year sometime if EFI does not come out for early 3rd gen.

Just for kicks, here is a link to a guy who is running the dual ECM and harnesses and his 2005--

The Smarty you're talking about, is that the only smarty tuner or are their different smarty options? I would love a little more in depth tuning compared to my Bully Dog GT. I suppose my GT is fine, but don't know unless you try others.

I hear they are working on EFI live for the 03-05 trucks though...

It's true, but they have been working on, with an unscheduled release date, for at least SEVERAL years now. A spokesperson from the company that posts on multiple forums, still claims that there WILL be a release date, BUT that there are some problems to overcome and right now it is more important for them to support EFI for newer trucks. Plus, haven't hearda ANYUTHING from her for awhile now. SOOOOOOOOOOOO, who knows??
