Anyone have any real world feedback on EGR Brakes? I see them in TDR mag and spoke with the folks there. They rave very highly about their kevlar pads and all. Was just wondering if it was as good as they say so reaching out to you all, any generation really.

Thanks!

Hi Robert
You don't need brakes until the project is ready to roll. There could be something better before it is finished.

Just jerking your chain,

Mr Trouble Maker, :p

First off, good deduction. This is for the crew.

Second off, unfortunately that is the issue. No one is making brake kits for the old trucks. :(

Thirdly, I need brakes as that is all that is stopping me now from DRIVING it out of the garage for a photo shoot. :D Engine runs. All components have fluid. Driveshafts are ready Monday. Wheels and tires are on. So in a perfect world, I should be able to drive it a few feet before I realize I forgot to do something important like, install axle bolts. LOL :D

Fourthly, I know you are jerking my chain. You do that effortlessly. ;)

Excellent , maybe we will see it in the spring. When I had the tow trucks we used a lot of Performance Friction product. http://www.performancefriction.com/ Good combination of stopping power and longevity. I don't know what might be available for your combination.

I installed their rear brake brake rotor kit on my '93. The kit came with very thorough step by step instructions. Glenn was easy to get a hold of and free to answer any questions you might have. My braking ability is well above what it was prior to the conversion. Since winter in Oregon is very wet they have preformed much better than the old drum set up. The only problem I had was with removal of the old brake lines. In the end I replaced all lines from the anti lock valve back to the calipers. I still need to by pass the anti lock valve. I also had to use a speedy sleeve on both sides due to normal wear. NAPA in Forest Grove OR had everything I needed such as brake lines and the speedy sleeves. If your truck has the 2&7/8 axle flange I've got the part numbers for the sleeves. Since you tow with your truck you might need an adjustable proportioning to change bias between front and rear when towing and non towing.

If I am not mistaken Glenn was one of the first if not the first to put together a kit. He was in CA at the time.

Oh yes. It will be out next spring. Even if not fully finished, it will go via trailer as that is now sorted out as well. :)

Excellent. Thanks for the link. I will look into that as well.

Thank for the info Bob! I have considered the disk upgrade for the 1990 as more brakes is always better when dealing with towing. Glad to hear they work well. Do you have the upgraded kevlar rear pads or the regular? I was told the kevlar was an upgrade.

In the case of the crew, I would ideally like a 6 or 8 piston set up for the front but as that is not available, I will look towards things like EGR.

I went with the standard pads that came with the kit and they have preformed quite well. I have not towed in quite a while, if and when I do tow again I might change the pads out.

I have their turbo slotted rotors on the front of my truck, they are a bit pricey but I like the way they perform.

You haven't towed in a while!? Who are you and what did you do with Bob!!!? ;)

Yes, I noticed the price on that kit too. Almost can buy another axles and swap the components over for that. Glad to hear they work well though. The caliper looked small so I was wondering if that would do much on the rotational leverage of a 19.5.

Are the front calipers on 1st gens single or dual piston? I wish someone would make a dual piston caliper for the early 2nd gens, and a larger rotor to go with it :{

I don't know all I got where the rotors I still have the factory calibers, but i've toyed with the idea of switching to ford dual piston calibers from what I can figure they should fit if you get the whole mounting bracket set up.
