Just did my second crank case filter service on my 2017. I got the kit from genos that includes the egr cleaning gaskets etc. anyway I took the egr valve off to clean it and was pleasantly surprised to find it not bad at all. Really just a light layer of soot in fact the valve shaft was still brass colored (131k miles). A quick air gun blow and quick hit with a small brush cleaned it right up literally less than five minutes. I had plans of moving to the cooler portion but ran out of time and needed the truck so buttoned it back up with the plan of getting back to it when time and weather allow. The top of the intake manifold where the egr valve sits certainly had a layer of soot on it but not like it was clogged up with soot. However it did make me think might be a good idea at some point to remove the intake to see what it looks farther down in there and the grid heaters if nothing else than to satisfy my curiosity.

While I know the manual doesn’t call for cleaning the egr valve or cooler I thought maybe every other ccv service might be a reasonable interval. Though at this point I am a bit unsure. The valve looked so good I thought about not doing the cooler but since time ran out that day it was moot at the moment. However the intake definitely had more soot again not packed hard just a layer of fluffy soot on the cross bar or whatever it my be called that made me think taking the intake off at some point to check it out to satisfy my curiosity to see how much soot may be down in there

I have an Edge insight cts and messing with the pids ran across the egr valve open % and the egr cooler efficiency% pid. Based on how it is worded I would expect it to show the % of airflow through the cooler the higher the number the better but I can’t find a single thing out about it and may very well be wrong in my interpretation of it. When I changed the CTS to show those two pids I had driven previously like day before driven about 1500 miles at 75-80 mph bucking a serious headwind on the way home so it was getting a decent workout for the last 600 miles. In any case changed the display when home to see what there was to see and at first the efficiency pid was running between 40 and 80. However within a days driving mixed highway and city it started running 80s -100%. If my interpretation of the pid is correct it seems great tells me the cooler is not clogged with soot and no real need to tear into that job anytime soon.

Sorry for the overly lengthy post to get to this short question
Does anyone have any idea what the pid really represents?
 
Cool, thanks for the info... I also have the CST2 Monitor on my 17 Ram 5500... I'm just 38K miles, but might set a reminder around 60K miles to those PIDs to see how it reads.
