My 97 had it's EGR fall off today.
I had been working on the trackbar, and Luke's Linking it, and installing the Luke's Bushing, when suddenly the intake horn fell off and a 49 state intake horn fell into the engine compartment.
I figured it didn't want to be there so I just finished disconnecting all the other parts, and cut out a steel plate to plug up that hole in the exhaust manifold.
Plugged up the vacuum line.
And went driving. Got the truck up to proper operating temp and ended up scratching my head in wonder. Where's the check engine light? I did not install a relay. Whadda I do wrong, errr, right, to not end up with a check engine light?
I was mostly curious as to how the truck would run with out the EGR and just had to try it out. Truck started as normal, and once it was up to temperature it felt as though it had another ten horsepower. I noticed no smoke at start up, at idle or while flooring it while climbing a fairly steep hill. Truck seems to rev faster when mashing down on the pedal.
Oh, and the truck steers better with the Luke Linked Trackbar. Still not perfect but way better, with the Trackbar, Upper and Lower Ball Joints and Bilsteins.
Thinks I learned about Luke's Links:
1. it was easier than I thought to remove the link bar, and install the Luke's Links. I did have to hammer away with a 5lb sledge on the pickle fork though. And I took a couple gouges out of the pickle fork.
2. Used a ball joint press to remove the bushing, then had to use a hack saw to cut two slots in the bushing sleeve and then hammer a punch to remove it.
3. Used a 4" grinder to remove the metal on the Drag Bar, pushed out the ball using a vice, and then cleaned up the edges of the Track Bar with a large ******* file. The Luke's Link just slipped over the end. I ended up with a very clean installation, and finished up with a couple good squirts of Marine Grade Grease.
4. I actually had fun doing the Luke's Link. And the front end feels better.
Tomorrow Drag Link gets Luke'd and maybe the rest of front end.
