EGR program updates at a cost

Hi. I was just in the Ram ******* for an airbag EGR program updates. I get the bill and there are three other EGR updates but it will cost me over four hundred to correct crap that should be free. FCA won’t cover my dash flashing bright, then dim or my trailer brake controls may not operate correctly.
Anyone else see this crud? Should be free! Right?

If your truck is still coverd under the 3 year 36000 comprehensive warranty I would think it would be covered. I have had several done no charge. Out of warranty probably not.

It's also not over the gvwr limit and any emissions equipment should have an 8 year warranty.

Did you ask them what the flashes are for?

One flash makes the dash lighting in the EVIC more stable where it’s not changing from daylight to dark mode over and over. Another one is a trailer brake module updates to prevent brake grabs and no work conditions. I think the third has to do with the hesitation when you step on the fuel pedal.

I bought it new eighteen months ago and the mileage is low. They tell me these aren’t warranted updates but convenience ones. Rat *******s.
What happened to the Ecodiesel buy back anyway?

I'd ignore it or call fca. The only flash in would get is a warranty one preventing failure

They changed the policy a few months back and only essential flashes are covered. If you want them to pay you need to bring it in with a complaint specifically for what the flash covers. Then it's covered under the basic warranty. It's no different than a TSB that might apply to a model year, but very few vehicles will have the concern.
Besides they are ripping you off for the flashes. Once hooked up to the truck they can do all three in about 20 or 30 minutes.
