I heard form a cummins engineer that works in class 8 truck engine development that there is a rumor that the b engine will not have to have EGR to meet emissions. The person is what Id consider to be a reputable source, but he could not confirm or deny the rumor, because he works in a totally different division of cummins. I f we are lucky it may just be a catalytic convertor, and maybe different ecm programing, nothing a box, and hack saw couldnt fix.

So many people have been worried about this upcoming emissions change you think that Dodge would make an announcement and clear things up once and for all. Rumors of EGR have been circulating for 6 months or more. If they were not going to do that, why haven't they said so? People from Dodge read TDR, they ought to know that true or not, there have been rumors flying that they are going to lower efficiency and increase maintenance by adding EGR. If that's not what they had planned, why didn't they just say so officially and put all these rumors to rest? I have a feeling they might have been keeping quiet in the hopes of pushing up demand for pre-EGR (or whatever) trucks. But now it's basically too late to order one, they've already harvested all the extra business they were going to get from that strategy, so now they should fess up and announce just what it is they are planning. That's just my two cents. I'm in the market for a new truck now, and I'm deliberately waiting to see what they are going to do. You hear that Dodge? I'm not buying a truck right now because you haven't come forward and announced how you're going to handle the emissions change. I wonder how many more potential customers are out there just waiting to see what they are going to do?!? I wonder how many people out there are browsing Ford and Chevy dealerships because they are afraid of what Dodge is going to do to mess with the Cummins?!?

I hope y'all are right about only needing a cat and program change to meet the new Federal Emissions Standards. I can't help but thing that if this was so the H. O. Cummins would be an option on California trucks. They already have converters so why no do the ECM program changes as well?

You know what would be great for peeps that don't have emissions in their 3Gs? What would be great is if the new emissions setup is just a partical catcher With the Cummins putting out more power with only ECM programing changes. The reason it would be great is because then the earlier 3Gs could get the updated flash for the extra power without the catcher... ;)

The function of EGR is to reduce engine-out NOx emissions. I guess I don't see how Cummins will be able to reduce NOx emissions without EGR. NOx after-treatment emission controls are still in their infancy and generally will require ULSD fuel anyway. Maybe Cummins has developed something similar to Caterpillar's ACERT?

Every one gets saying well if its a CAT I can cut it off. Some CATS are Incorporated in the exhaust manifold itself. No easy feat to get rid of!

i emailed cummins for a clarification on the CARB issue, since my truck on order will be affected by the changes. as of yet, i have not received a reply. i requested in my email that they also post their answer on TDR.

As soon as a public announcement has been made by either D-C or Cummins you can be sure that we'll have it posted on the site. Until they make a public statement I wouldn't expect to hear from them.
