CP3 issue?

You'll have a code and the truck will make some funny noises at idle while it cycles the butterfly valve in the intake horn to try to free up what it thinks is a sticking EGR valve, but I ran that way for many miles before I tuned it and deleted all that junk.

Thanks for the replies. Right now, I've got the EGR and the cooler unplugged, and am not seeing any problems. I just didn't want to get on a trip and go into limp mode, or something. How will this effect the dpf?

I believe that you'll eventually see limp mode with the cooler unplugged. The truck needs all the inputs from the cooler and the butterfly valve in the intake horn or it will throw a fit. The EGR valve itself is the only think you can unplug for a long time. I even tried to remove the disk from the butterfly valve in the intake horn and my truck threw fits until I put it back in.

I have had mine EGR unplugged for 4 months now and it did set the check engine light. Two main things I saw were that it takes longer for the temp gauge to move up and the truck gets noticeably better MPG. No other codes or issues.

So has anybody had the cooler unplugged for period of time? Just wondering cause I have had the EGR unplugged and it still tries to REGEN, and when it does it is very noticable on my EGT gauge and the fuel mileage takes a plunge. I have got the Bully Dog GT tuner, it will not turn the EGR Regen off like some of the other ones I have seen. What tuner out there is good for that that you all are running?

I have had the EGR unplugged for 2 years. It gives a nice increase in mpg and continues to regen the DPF normally without issue. To turn off the regens you will need a delete tuner and remove the DPF. Just search deleting and you will find countless threads especially on Cumminsforums.com http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/gtsearch.php?q=delete
I will probably leave mine as is unless the filter starts giving me trouble.

My entire EGR system was removed for about 360,000 miles and other than the CEL being on nothing else happened. No limp mode, no issues. I don't think it had any effect on the DPF, at least not any negative effect as my original DPF lasted around 360,000 miles too. The only thing I noticed after removing the EGR was my higher sense of confidence in the truck, knowing it wouldn't strand me with a burned out EGR cooler again.
