EGR Valve & E Brake

What are you Californians with 97s doing with the EGR Valve when you put on and exhaust brake? BD wants $100 for the EGR kit. Is there any other option. I tried to just plug the line but then get the 'check engine light'. I do not believe the EGR has any useful function on a diesel.
Before I buy and exhaust brake I want to know what my options might be. JR

Cummins definitely advises against the installation of an exhaust brake on any diesel with an EGR. For confirmation of this, go to Power. Master@Cummins.com and ask for advise.
