I was told that the 2003 engine for California and some other states had an EGR valve. But over the past weekend at a TDR rally this was not true, and that the 2004 would have one. Is this correct?

EGR Valve

That is good news. I understand that the EGR valve will put more sout into the engine. Of course this means, very dirt oil after a short period of time!

Reckon those A&B service schedules may change again if this turns out to be true. 7500 & 15,000 may a thing of the past. :--)

egr valve

Since I live in California. It was my impression that the reason for the 235hp was due to the EGR, and hence the shorter oil changes. But it they don't have EGR valves, why the 235 hp and short oil changes:confused:

Eco-idiots and California mandates for clean air. The engine is tuned to produce as little emissions as possible to meet the California standards.

I thought the 03 California trucks had catalytic converters instead of EGR valves.

I wonder if DC is planing on adding cat's to all trucks after Jan 1st ?

EGR Valve

I am not sure if it has a CAt or not, good question, I will have to get under my truck and see. I am sure that the 04 will have an EGR valve, plus I understand that in 2004. 5 they plan to have a 5 speed version of the 48RE. I am wondering if the this trans is like the Allison, where by you can program the trans to shift into an extra gear?

EGR

I looked under my truck today... and what did I see a CAT Converter! I bet if I take that stupid thing out, add a four inch pipe in its place... . I will get back some HP and TQ!

Don't you have some sort of emission inspection requirement in California? I'd think it would be a PIA to have to put the Cat back in once a year for inspection. No inspections down here in the Florida Keys. Rest of Florida, yes.
