Someone pointed me to the EGR Delete wiring diagram and for that I am grateful. I struggled to read the various values on the page, and so I set out to redraw the diagram but save it off as a 300 dpi version suitable for printing.

I'm almost done, but am struggling to decipher some of those values. If someone could take a look and give me corrections I'd appreciate it. Will post back for folks to use as they see fit.

Am happy to include any other content that makes it easier for folks to comprehend the schematic.

Here's the big one:

And here's one a bit smaller:

I could have saved you all that redrawing by sending it to you as an email. The drawing is mine; that is I took the info provided by another member and drew it up after modifying it to work on my '98.

What specific values do you need?

If you email me at -- email address removed -- I can send you a GIF or JPEG file of my drawing.

I suspect it will work on any 12 valve with EGR. I don't know about any others.

I know I'm a bit late here, but I just removed my '96 EGR and blocked the manifolds, unplugging the vacuum controller and everything. Not a whole lot of info out there for a 2nd gen EGR delete, so I was kinda working blind. Do you think you could post photos of your electronic fixes? I've got no CEL so far and it runs fine; do you think I'm gonna have problems later, or did I just get lucky?

The "fix" was to prevent the CEL by fooling the PCM into thinking the EGR was still working. My guess is that if you haven't had any CEL's, you're good to go.

Don't have any pictures and sold the '98 several years back. I do have a few notes and a occasionally faulty memory. If you have any questions, ask away.

I have not gotten any CEL's on my truck. I think it may be due to the computer being replaced early on in this truck's life. I found the receipt for it a couple weeks ago. Was replaced under warranty. Maybe my truck got a computer for a non-California Truck.

Do you know what was the amp rating on the relay was? My engine's throwing codes now, so I'm gonna give the relay fix a try. Thanks.

I used a 10 amp relay because I had one on hand. Nearly any would work though. The actual load is very low, certainly less than most relays.

i know this is of topic. . but on newer 2005 yearmodel does it has somekind of xtra **** to throw away if it was i california or does all have some antipolution system to unplugg?

One more question: does the EGR code affect transmission performance on the 47RE? Particularly the torque convertor (or is only the TCC electronic?) and shift points? My transmission's been acting really funning since I deleted the EGR, and I'm not sure if its just coincidence, or if the truck's PCM is doing some sort of weird limp mode or transmission lock-down, because it knows the EGR's not working.

Don't think so, unless you've altered some wiring or vacuum lines beyond the diagram. My '98 had a modified valve body and TC control because of the exhaust brake so can't be certain.

The 96 will have a code stored but no light... ...

Well, everything's done. Thanks for all the help. Installed an AFE blade runner intake manifold last week; performance & mileage are way up - the EGR delete is probably the best thing you could do to a CA truck. I got 27 mpg cruising @ 65 on the highway; really slow but really happy. On to the exhaust manifold now.

Glad to see you did the new intake manifold. The CA version is severely restricted even if the EGR is disabled/blocked off. I always suspected that a new intake would greatly improve performance/milage but never got around to replacing my '98s.

Glad to hear your mod was successful.

Yeah, the intake opening narrows down to about the size of a quarter where the EGR valve hooks up. Its disgusting and can't be good for the engine at all.

well I am real upset!!! I have a 94 12v new truck to me post. just ran my MPG for my first tank of fuel and I am sitting at a whopping 11 mpg. now I know something has to be wrong. I want 27 MPG too. I am really shocked cause my last truck a 1995 one ton dually 2x4 ran around 21 mpg and I was happy with that. my current is 1994 3/4 ton 12v 4x4. This sucks.

IMO, claims of regularly getting 28 mpg are dubious.

The 4X4 will cost you a bit in mpg but you should be able to do better than 11. My '98 2X4 consistently got about 18 with me driving and near 20 with my wife. It was a Cali model with EGR so it probably was handicapped to start with.

How you drive has the most impact on mpg, the size/type of tire and pressure also.

Perhaps I should clarify: Sorry, I did not mean to say or imply that I was regularly getting 27-27. 5, that was my best post-EGR delete/new manifold trip running empty when it was around 40* outside (don't know about wind) with special attention to coasting and incredibly slow acceleration as much as possible. My usual highway mpg is 24-25 with Diesel Kleen additive.

Like danavilla said, the key is how you drive. I never go faster than 65 cruising and never pass faster than 70, and I always try to stay around 1500-1600 rpm until the TCC kicks in. Whether or not you choose to believe my mileage claims, I think everyone will agree that the EGR delete does give you a real advantage efficiency wise. I will try to see if I can get a picture of the inside of the restrictive CA intake.

Bull642, is your truck an automatic? If your transmission's shift points are a little late, that hurts mileage.
