Ok, after getting rid of the DPF I decided to go ahead and make the plung to get rid of the EGR. I decided to use the blockoff plates for the EGR and block off the tube on the passangers side. I got started then got called out on a job, before I could get the Butterfly valve removed from below the EGR. I was concerned that this might not work, but whent ahead and tried it. I drove the truck 500+ miles (with the EGR gone/ unplugged and the tube blocked, just still had the butterfly) over the weekend with no limp mode. Now I do have this really annoying ding that reminds me that I need to see the dealer for service. "imidiate service" My question is this.

1) Do i need to go ahead and remove the butterfly valve?

2) How long before it goes into limp?

3) I removed it on my buddies CC and we broke both screws in the plate, anyone else have this problem? I would like to be able to put this all back together for when I take it into the shop, any suggestions would be great.

My opinion... .
#1 - If you don't notice a performance difference, then there may be no need. 500 miles should be plenty of time to see if there are any issues with airflow, but w/ no valve there is never the opportunity for your fresh air to get obstructed
#2 - Not sure it will, if it has not yet... ... but not sure on this
#3 - I think once those screws are out, they are out for good. They are in pretty darn tight, I broke off a bit unscrewing them. I am not aware of an easy way to remove/install them.

Are you planning on re-installing the DPF before you take it back in? Or just concerned about the engine parts?

The screws are peened on the back side. take a file or small grinder and file down to the shaft and they will come right out. Also they can be reinstalled.

Just to let you know the EGR valve is not a butterfly valve and it is spring loaded closed. I don't know if there is ever enough exhaust pressure to open the valve.

#1 yes I think you should remove it, it can help prevent issues later. If it ever closes on you, you could have serious issues fast.
#2 I don't know, I use Edge Juice with Attitude, no dinging, no issues, tons of power
#3 if you first spray the screws a few times with a really good penetrating oil and then slowly work them back and forth, gaining a quarter turn each time, the last thread that is peened will separate and you can save the screws should you ever need to re-install. That's what I did with mine. There's cheap / easy ways to do stuff, but so far on this truck I have been finding that the more money I put into it the more I like it. :D

What would be cool is to hook up nitrous to the egr and use it as a controller or make a crack pipe out of it?? Wheres my lighter???
