EGT/Boost Installation on '97

Before I purchase the pyro and boast gauge to install myself, I want to make sure I can get through the firewall. When I talked to John at Geno's garage, he referred me to pp 84-85 of issue 26 of the TDR. On page 84 (bottom)of that issue, there is an under hood picture which shows a rounded diamond cover alledgedly used to access the engine compartment for installation of a pyrometer and boost gauge. However, my '97 is completely different than the picture shows. I see no rounded diamond cover. Both gromets are perfectly round and one is backed by a metal plate on the inside. The other appears to be less than easy to penetrate. Has anyone out there the "fished" the lines through the firewall on a '97 (5 speed) for an A-pillar mount of the gauges? Please advise.

I could never find those holes either. Our clutch master cylinder is in one of them. The auto trucks have the clutch cylinder hole plugged with a grommet. Must be nice to have a large opening like that for wires.

What I found works ok is find something sharp & pointed and pop a couple of holes in the hood release cable grommet/boot going thru the firewall. Its about a 3/4" hole , but the cable is small. Plenty of room around the cable for wires to pass thru.

There is also lots of room lower to drill a hole to run wiring. Once you get alot of accessories, you`ll have to drill. No big deal.

I dont know if the 97 is different than 96 but on mine I pushed the wires through where all the rest of the wires go thru to the left and up from the clutch pedal, went right thru real easy

I second Deezul 1. Pushed both the steel braided pyrometer wire and the 5/16 tubing for the boost guage on my A-pillar installation. It might have been easier as I have an aftermarket alarm with wires run.
