Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) EGT gauge problems

I have a 01' with a Autometer Phantom EGT gauge that cuts out frequently and even gets jumpy where it can't find a good temp to stay at. I have replaced the sender probe 3 times and had numerous calls to Autometer. No one seems to know exactly what is wrong? The ground is shared by another gauge that works 100% of the time. It never has worked 100% since I bought it. It seems to read correct but then jumps back to zero and jumps around other lower readings. Any ideas? I searched on this but my question seems too specific.
