EGT temps pulling trailer easily reach max (1000 post turbo) I always down shift so I'm not sure how much hotter they would get... I'm thinking of either a Piers HX35 or a 16cm turbo housing and would like some input as to which is the best choice... . I don't want to give up any power, but I'm not sure a Piers with a 12cm housing would help enough... . The BOSS (wife) says I should just down shift and drive 55:-{} . . NORM

I put a 16 housing on my stock turbo and it help with egts quite a bit. A lot cheaper than getting a whole new turbo. But if you go with a new Piers turbo, I'm sure you could get it with a 16 housing.

nball - I too need to lower my EGT's. When you change turbos/housings, there are several considerations (wastgated or no, increased turbo lag or no, cost is no object or is). I have had no less than three conversations with Piers on this subject. He suggested I do a couple of things before spending the bucks.

I will make turbo mods, but not shooting from the hip. The master (Piers) will guide me through the Turbo mod process.

Give Piers a call.

My Boss also has the 55 mentality  . Did they go to the same school?

I'd be real careful with 1000 post turbo nball! At 32psi & 950 to 1000 degrees post turbo equated to 1500psi pre turbo. I know 1st hand. I moved the probe & was surprised.

If I remember right, drawson dropped 150 degrees by changing to the 16cm housing.

If you want to drop it big bunches, get Piers HX40-16. The stock HX40-16 dropped mine around 3 to 400 degrees.

Lots ... noticeable. Turbo lag increased alright, but the BHAF reduced it, but not back to the HX35-12. The stock air box, even with the K&N, is restrictive for the stock HX40. I couldn't believe the difference! I actually put the stock box back on & did as controlled a test as I could. The boost came on earlier & ramped up faster. :)

I'm not concerned with off the line performance from low boost, so the lag is no an issue. When the stock HX40 starts boosting & you're in the throttle, the boost needle rockets around the dial. Absolutely no comparison to the HX35. Piers HX40 surely does much better and it starts boost at lower RPM.

I tow the 27' 5'er & still, not an issue. The zero plate provides grande' amounts of fuel @ low rpm ... more than enough low rpm grunt to get the 5'er moving in style, even starting uphill.

The next turbo for me is Piers HX40-18. I understand it has the same spool up properties as the stock HX40-16, but no doubt will reduce EGT.

You be careful talking to those guys up in Canada, I talked to Piers and Bill for the first time a year ago and you see what happened:p Seriously you should just call Piers or Al and talk to them as they will steer you straight on any idea cause they are all about us.

Reddog1 (cool name) I guess I want to have my cake and eat it to... (lots of power, no lag & low egt) I'll call PIERS... Thanks. . norm Forrest I'm a little fuzzy on the relationship between boost and egt I downshift at 950 with about 10psi boost. I will be moving the egt probe before my next trip to Vegas. . thanks again... norm

M Barnett – In talking to Piers, he suggested I consider the bigger housing, then later go to his modified HX35. The bigger housing would reduce EGTs, and later the modified HX35 would increase the air a little more (further reduce EGTs) and improve lag time. This also allows you to make two payments (housing then turbo) on the turbo instead of one. You also need to determine if you need a waste gated housing or non-waste gated. A lot of dollars difference.

Forrest – I appreciate your to the point response. At the risk of splitting hairs, do you know how many seconds it takes from initial acceleration to when you have obvious spool up? It may be harder to time in a stick than an auto.

Initially, with the stock turbo, and piers exhaust elbow (35-lbs. boost), #10 plate, 370 injectors and a DDT transmission w/89% TC, it took me 3 seconds for obvious spool up. I have adjusted the AFC to the point it now takes 1. 6 seconds. I use a stopwatch. Although I think I can do further adjustments, the 1. 6 is not bad. The three seconds was awful. I am concerned the Piers HX40 would be closer to the 3 seconds than the 1. 6. What do you think?

Jim Fulmer – You have a point about talking to those guys in Canada. My wife is threatening to not allowing me to speak to them again :{ .

Nball – have your cake and eat it to... (lots of power, no lag & low egt)? Simply stated, how much money do we have? Piers has not figured how to do it for free, at least he would not tell me. I do think that Piers and Bill K. will advise you on what they believe to be true, not on what it takes to make a sale. It is well worth considering what Forrest and Jim Fulmer have posted.

As Forrest suggests, move the probe.

Thanks for the name comment. Not only is my Truck Red on top with Silver on the bottom, so is my Hair :D .

Reddog1, Money is always a consideration. . but more importantly I want to get what I pay for..... I gave banks a lot of cash for power I can't use towing, when outside air temps are 70 or higher. It seems like Piers has a great rep... so I'll give them a call next month... If I need 16cm housing that would be great... To get a new turbo I'll have to ask the BOSS to raise my allowance:rolleyes: I live near the ocean and noticed today that I have corrosion starting on my intercooler... so I'll need to pressure check as I understand a leak there would cause egt to rise also... . I really appreciate all the great comments I'm getting ... ... ... ... ..... norm:)
