EGT, How high

What should the egt's run on a stock 96 4x4, with 3. 54's and a 5 speed ? It is a completly stock motor, no bombing has been done. My egt's will run up to 1100 if I get after it hard and the boost is at 24. The probe is pre turbo . I can get to 1100 really fast with the 20' foot stock trailer on , not even fully loaded. The altitude here is about 5900 feet and outside temp in the upper 80's. Is this a normal thing ?

BFaoro... I had a similar setup to yours (auto transmission though) before I bombed anything. I frequently drove at the same altitude with similar load and experienced EGT's that were slightly higher (1200 deg under the conditions you described).



My 230 Hp fuel plate and additional boost cooled things a bit and I just recently advanced the timing from about 12 deg BTDC to 14. 5 BTDC (it had slipped a bit) and experienced a slight reduction in EGT's of about 50 deg.



I often run it up to 1300 deg for short periods to climb some hills and so far I haven't suffered any problems.

Got pretty much same truck except dualie and bombed to 275hp plate. Can get to 1300 easily towing uphill-downhill no problem . Not towing I can get to 1250 with my foot in it until shift to OD as rpm's increase temp drops. Your temps sound ok.
