I am going to drill and tap my 3G manifold for an EGT probe.

Where is the best location on the manifold (pre- turbo) to drill. ???

Thanks for the help. :)

I tried to search for it but got nothing.

The picture in the 2nd post is of a pre-common rail.

The TST picture shows it being after the 3rd cylinder in the manifold log. Wouldn't it be better to install it where it sees a combination of all 6 cylinder heat?? That is what I am looking for but do not want to randomly start poking a hole and find out there is an interior partition that I drilled into.

The hole is sucessfully drilled like RANKRAM did.

I used grease and "the old potato in the tailpipe trick" only I used my exhaust brake as the plug when the engine was idling. Worked great. There was no way any metal chips fell into the manifold. As soon as the drill (21/64")opened the hole, even slightly, the pressure started blowing grease/chips etc. clear out of the engine compartment. Same when tapping the threads, 1/8" NPT 27.

I temporarily plugged it with a brass pipe plug until my gauge/sensor set-up arrives.

I was concerned with the melting point of the plug but after "Googling" it I found it to be 1650 F. Plenty good. :)

Thanks for the info on location of the hole.
