99 2500 6 speed with DR performance phase II, 5" muffler and tail pipe, Pac brake, Amsoil air filter, cold air from under windshield, 4. 5 inch, diff 3:55. Above 2000 ft altitude my egt wants to climb over 1000 deg, aft of turbo, on a hard pull. I tow a 14,000 lbs 5th wheel. Last week I installed a power puck, emtpy truck runs real well, but have to watch EGT even closer when pulling. Does anyone know what would help without loseing power? Would more air help? I am still limited to 20lbs boost.

Got Boost?

More air=lower EGT. Figure roughly about 25° lower for every lb of boost as long as your in the "Effciency" map of your turbo. I would say more boost do ya some good. Not sure if the PowerPuck has a boost module built into it or not, but you need to slow the wastegate down on the turbo and add a boost module (if the powerpuck doesn't have one) to prevent defueling and setting engine code.

No doubt about it, you need more air! Install a boost elbow, and a boost module, and see if it makes any difference. I know the DRr. P kits don't increase the boost levels, which in my opinion is not smart.

I would suggest modifing your air box if you haven't already. What i did lowered my EGT's by 100-150 degs. under the load of the camper and trailer. I installed a K&N air filter and I drilled two; inch and half holes in the lower part of the air box. In these holes I installed 2, 90 deg. plastic elbows and ran one of them out behind the headlight w/ a length of radiator hose. That one allows cooler air in from the front of the vehicle. The other one I just turned down so it wouldn't suck any water in. If you put your hand over the end of the hose when the motor is running you can actually feel the suction on the palm of your hand. If you use the K&N make sure you grease both sides of the rubber sealing surface on the filter good to prevent anything from getting by it.

I had the same problem on my 99!Install a boost elbow and a boost fooler if you haven't already. I did this to mine and it cooled the egt's back to proper levels!BD is a good place to source these items. :D

99quad-cab loaded bd-rv box,bd-injectors,bd-boost fooler,bd-elbow,bd-valve-body,pro-lock conveter,4inch exhaust,a pillar gauges,hornton-fan. 34lbs of boost no problems:p
