Please post your egt probe install pics , that way I can install edge juice probe the Right way.

I ran a search and came up with just about every install under the sun Except the egt probe pics.

Thanks in advance!

Best place ato mount it is about 1" above the turbo to exhaust manifold mounting flange, this is known as pre-turbo( most acuurate), you dont even have to take turbo off, you get ya some good wheel bearing grease, dip your drill bit in it, drill alittle, then clean it off, then dip it again, do this over and over until done, just don't get greedy on drilling to far and let the grease get really dirty when you are just about to drill thru, then do your tap the same way, then take a small mechanics magnet and run it thru hole to pick up any shavings that might be around edge of hole, installing probe is cake walk. Good luck

I did my '98 before I heard of using a shop vac discharge hose stuck in the exhaust pipe to apply positive pressure in the system while drilling and tapping.

To me it sounds much better than running the engine while doing it and would still keep chips out of the turbo or manifold better than a magnet and grease.

I recall finding some pics when I needed info, so I did some research for you. I don't know yet how to attach link to another post. Search "manifold" there is a post titled "?? about EGT TC install". Robmints post has a link to some pictures of both locations. My buddy's Edge instructions picked the location on top of the manifold behind the heat shield. Genos Garage also recommends this spot. This location picks up #1,2 3 cylinders. The spot above the TC picks up #4,5,6 but is harder to get do with a drill. People pick this spot because 4,5,6 run a bit hotter. This may be important if you've bombed your engine, but if you're running to that tight a tolerance you're asking for trouble anyway. I used Genos instructions to drill and tap with grease and cleaned out the shavings with a pencil magnet. Go with the 1/8" NPT probe so you can move up to a 1/4" if something goes wrong. The only thing I did differently was that I used an "R" bit as recommended on the chart at the hardware store. Search everything you can in TDR (EGT probe, gauges, etc) before starting this job. Lots of good tips if you dig.

EGT Probe Install

Has anyone taken the exhaust manifold off? Drill and tap on the bench with no worry about metal into the turbo. What are the torque specs when you put it back on? I haven't gotten the nerve to start drilling with the turbo looking up at me.

Is there a reason you just can't remove the turbo and shove something into the exhaust port to catch the metal fillings from drilling and tapping probe hole. That way you wouldn't have to reinstall the manifold use the turbo.
