Assuming you have a stock exhaust manifold, Geno's Garage recommends this location.

Pyrometer Installation:

On both the 12-valve and 24-valve engines, the best place to locate the thermocouple in the exhaust

manifold is about two inches before the turbo flange gasket surface toward the engine. The manifold

has a split-passage design with three cylinders feeding each passage, and a vertical internal web

separating the two passages in the center. Thus, the manifold is solid in the center.

I have best luck drilling and tapping the hole in the exhaust manifold, when the truck is running. That way all the metal filings blow out of the hole and not thru the turbo. You can drill a little ways in before starting the truck. If the truck is cooled down, it exhaust is not that hot coming out of the hole.

This job is much easier to do than I ever thought.

The cast isn't super hard cast.

Most cast I have drilled was a beeotch to drill.

This wasn't bad at all.

Boost Gauge

Geno's Garage recommends this location on the intake manifold plate. For future reference, aftermarket intake manifolds sometimes have optional ports dilled and tapped for the boost fitting aswell. Hope this helps, take care.

Matt
