I mounted mine pre-turbo on the exhaust manifold. I used a flat spot on the top of the manifold just before the down turn. If you use this location drill to one side or the other as there is a plenum in the middle of the the port. I like this location as it was easy to access and makes for nice routing of the leads up to the cowl and into the cab.

Comming back from lunch I ran my truck hard and left it running when I stopped. I raised the hood and took readings on the manifold and turbo with a hand held pyro. Every thing pre turbo was about the same until it started to cool down. The front cooled down faster than the rear with at most 50*F. differance. After cooling down they were again close to the same temp. The turbo housing cooled down the fastest and was 100*F. cooler to start with.

im interested in how you guys are drilling and tapping preturbo and not getting little pieces of metal all through your turbo. im sure it has been said a million times before, but i a newby and need some help. :)

I placed a couple of strong magnets around the area where I was drilling and tapping. After I was finished I used a small magnet on a probe and cleaned out any filings that were in the manifold. I have also filled the drill bit and tap with grease which will catch some of the filings. Also I don't think these small filings would hurt the turbo anyways. I have done two engines this way and not a problem with either. The most important thing to do is drill and tap carefully to get an excellent end result.

Regarding keeping the filings out of the turbo, I saw another post on here somewhere that talked about plugging your exhaust with duct tape, then running the engine while drilling and tapping. the idea is that the filings will blow out the hold because of the high back pressure. Food for thought. I wonder if it would cause the filings to blow into the turbo too, before you could get the cleaned out.
