I have read in the past about the AutoMeter probes and I think most were using the #5244 probe as the better one. The #5243 has a 1/4" probe vs. 3/16. Why do you feel the 5244 is the better of the two.

Thanks
Tom

I just picked up a Autometer probe (was back ordered for 3 weeks) part #5249 has 1/4" probe. Is this a newer model or an older one???? Wondering if I should install it?

I just went back to the AutoMeter site for the 5249 and am more confused. 5249 does not say "racing" probe. What does the "racing" part give you? I would like the most durable one.

I talked to a rep from Autometer, He said the probe I have is a cheeper street version that is not nearly as accurate as the #5244. He strongly recommended the #5244, said the one I have may be off by 100-200 degrees. I'm picking up the better one tomorrow, costs twice as much though.

The #5249 is called a street probe. I had the #5244 in my hand. I returned it for the #5249. Saved 50 bucks. BIG difference in quality between the probes. I should have kept the #5244. Planning on swapping in the future. Not a bad probe. Box said the #5249 was for diesel applications.
