Competition US131 Drag Way Tonight Smarty For Loan/Test

Just wondered if anyone had seen this:

Got an Autometer ultralight with about 2 years on it - no probs. Out beating on the truck last weekend (over 1600 several times) and toward the end of the day, the gauge started to "flicker" on and off - like something was loose inside it or something, until it quit completely and needle hangs at what would be about -200.

Mind you - I have had the temp over 1600 several times previous to this weekend and it has never hiccuped.

Anyway, anyone seen same? Not sure how to "test" it to see if it's gauge, probe, or wiring...

Try and trace the wires. You might have lost a ground. This same thing happened to my rear diff. gauge, the ground wire broke off the frame. Just an idea.

Nope - have 12V accross the gauge with key on. Have 0. 12V accross pyro probe wires with engine off, and a gauge reading of approx -200F(?). Anyone know what a good # is voltage wise, with engine off and/or at idle so I can tell if it's gauge or probe?

I've been running that gauge for several years. Sometimes the wires get jiggled on the back of the gauge, and cause it to freak out. Sometimes I'll notice the temp doesn't look right, so I tap the pod and it either goes to normal or drops negative. For me it's time to check those wires.

Called autometer - says they have an updated probe to fix a ground problem with the original setup. Will post when I get it.

Just wanted to let everyone know, the updated probe fixed it. No charge to me from Autometer either even though it's been a couple years
