This is my first diesel, it is a 04. 5, 600, 2500, 4x4 with an auto trans. I have installed the AFE air filter and an edge ez along with dipricol gauges. This weekend I pulled a 25 foot enclosed trailer (not real heavy) to Cedar city from Las Vegas. The cruz was set at 75 mph. On long slight uphill grades I was at a constant 900 to 1100 on some of the big hills it went to 1350 – 1400. The EZ was on the lowest level. My Questions are.

1. How hot is to hot?

2. What is the hottest and for how long can you keep it there?

3. What is the limit for constant temp?

4. What can I do to lower the EGTs?

Thanks

1. i thought 1250 pre turbo sustained was bad (per cummins). ive heard of people touching 1600-1700 on WOT bursts or dyno runs (not sustained).

2. i personally wont go over 1250 sustained pre turbo.

3. 1250.

4. to lower EGT's you want to increase airflow. Both on the intake and exhuast side. since you already have the air filter--might want to look into a 4" exh. Oo.

good luck brother...

Thanks, 0013. I think already have the 4" exhaust. it comes on the 600 doesn't it? I now it is hard to answer but in you opinion how long could you stay at 1350 - 1450.

i've got a guy i bought my exhaust from recently that gave me a great price. if you're interested pm me and i'll find his phone number.

Your truck does have a 4 inch exhaust, but the cat and the stock muffler are very restrictive. I woulnd't run at those temps for long at all.
