Ok, I've searched for EGT Probe, EGT Gauge, Gauge install and a bunch of others. The best I've found is the 3 gauge install from October last year BUT I only got about 25% of the pictures and didn't get the EGT probe position picture. Just a little frustrated...

Three requests...

Anybody have a picture of a drilled and tapped manifold? I want to go ahead of the turbo.

Do I need to pull the turbo so I don't send cast iron chips through it? I know about greasing the bit and using a magnet but it looks like the best place to tap is in the collector right above the turbo.

The probe came with a steel 1/4 pipe adapter and an 1/8 brass adapter (Isspro) . Brass melts at 1600 degrees so I should have much bigger problems if I melt that. Should I drill the bigger hole and go with the steel or drill the smaller hole and go with the brass?

Dude, we need a signature so we know what you got.

Don't need to pull the turbo. Use a magnet, get as much out as you can, then run it at idle with the open hole for a few minutes and call it good. Any remaining iron slivers are going to pass no problem and won't cause your turbo any harm. Remember that the turbo isn't like a jet engine, it's more like a water wheel except with exhaust.

I used this drill lube I got at the hardware store to lube the bit but I've also used WD-40 and that works just as well.

Personally, I don't think your brass is going to melt. You're most likely not going to get that hot if your stock. Highest I've ever seen was 1300 and that was really pushing it and under certain conditions. I would probably go with the steel myself. But thats just me.

go with the 1/8" brass. . the exhaust manifold itself won't get to brass melting points [will act as a heat sink for the brass] and if something does screw up when you are drilling for the 1/8" npt hole [5/16", 11/32" or Q depending on what guide you go by] you always can upsize to the 7/16" needed for 1/4"npt



as for location, i picked pre turbo, just above the turbo towards the rear side to get the temps off 4-5-6. . if i get a fueling box that has a probe, i will put it next to the other probe, but measuring off 1-2-3



i idled the engine while drilling my pilot hole, then greased the final drill size with a heavy grease and drilled with the engine dead. tapped the 1/8"npt with grease on the tap. . then just fired up the engine and idled it for a bit. . that was 20,000km+ ago. .

I just installed mine on my '06 last night. I did it on my '99 for my Blue Chip FMS. Yesterday I drilled it for my Quadzilla Commander gauges, between cylinders 4 and 5. I did as the instructions said. I used a 1/8" pilot hole, then a 21/64ths bit for a 1/8-27 NPT tap. I didn't go too deep, and the probe sticks out further than most I have seen, but it works!

Here's mine, best advice I can offer: Go SLOW, take your time, don't sweat it. I've done 2 of them and was close to a basket case both times. Just something about putting a drill to a new engine! When you finish you will say to yourself, that was nuttin'.

Here is one more idea you can add to the collection. I used the greased drill bit, but I also did one more thing. I left the motor running at idle. Just before the drill bit punched through, I had a friend stuff a rag in the exhaust pipe. When the drill punched through it just blew everything out the hole.
