I have a 2011 Dodge 3500 DRW HO Laramie Longhorn (really really nice truck)... but I have a question for those that have a simular rig. I am seeing egt's of up tp 1200 degrees... most of the time it runs between 850 to 1150 degrees. Is anyone seeing temps this high??

If it's stock, quit looking at it. It is what it is, and it is not too hot. It will last forever at those temps.

If you want to lower your EGT's you can unplug the EGR. On my 2010 I lowered my EGT's by and average of 150* by unplugging the EGR. Now it takes a pretty decent hill towing my 10,000 lb travel trailer to get to 1250* when before it would reach 1250* just accelerating with the trailer on.

I bet you get 1450°+ towing in a regen... Stock is stock, don't look at it or it will cost your money!

Ummmm... . yep. It has a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty, so with this one, I just hitch up the 5th wheel and go. If the computers can't protect it, then Dodge can replace it.

Since the '04. 5s all of them are engineered to run at up to 1450* under full load conditions. It should be no concern.

I ran my old '01 at up to 1300* routinely without problems. All the worry on TDR about EGTs higher than 900* is silly at best.

Power means heat, especially on a single turbo. . 900-1250 is normal operation under load 1250-1450 is normal operation under load for emissions on 04. 5+ motors.

THat was my biggest mistake on my last truck. I put gauges (four) on the stock truck before the Smarty Jr. I had gauge fixation and became afraid to drive the truck. With this truck I just drive and let Dodge worry about any problems that develope. It actually feels pretty good gunning the engine climbing a hill towing my 5th wheel.....

I see you have an 09, I'm looking at one. It has the new Blue Tec diesel. I'm trying to get all the info on this engine I can to see if it is a good engine. I don't know if the 2010 or 2011 have the same Blue Tec engine Does your truck have this engine and what is your opinion on it? This is a 3500 SRW 4X4 with very low mileage.

The only thing that is Blue Tec is the name plate, that is a Mercedes Trademark Name, when they owned Chrysler some of that stuff happened, its a Cummins engine, the best you can buy in a light Diesel.

It's a Cummins engine. The Blue Tec is some Mercedes emissions technology.

We are very pleased with the truck, except the MPG. That's the price you pay for a larger engine with more emissions equipment.

The 2010's and 2011's have the same drive train as the 2007. 5 Dodges on up.

Towing, we get 9's to 11's MPG depending on the wind, terrain, etc. This is with ~21,000-22,000 gross. Other mileage is harder to ascertain as we seldom do a whole tank on one type of mileage. In town MPG stinks. Stop and go kills MPG with a 8,800# truck. I have weighed it.

I installed gauges on a friends 06 Dodge when it turned 160,000 miles. He watched the pyrometer go to 1400 and FREAKED OUT. Had me install a different exhaust manifold, turbo and exhaust. I tried telling him that the truck had ALWAYS ran that high towing, the driver just didn't know it. So we solved a problem that really DID NOT EXIST IMHO Just drive the truck.
