I know that jets and turboprops have time limits on how long they can run at certain temperatures. i. e. five minutes at 650*c, then 600*c indefinatly. SO my question, is there a time limit to how long we can run a cummins at 1250*f ?
You can run 1250 degrees all day long. I feel 1300 is the max for sustained use. When you become familar with the pyro watch for any unusual readings. If you run at the max temp you need to know that the guage is working right. Pyro's of the past have been somewhat tempermental, however they have improved.
One thing you need to keep in mind is that your pyro is an average of all cylinders and is not the highest cylinder temp. There has been cylinder damage done at lower temps than some people feel safe at. Factor in your desire to tear apart the engine if your pyro is not accurate or one cylinder(#6) is much warmer than the others.
Thanks guys! This question popped into my head the other day when I was hauling some cattle. The egts were only at about 1000*. I've never seen it above 1150*. I just put my gauges in a couple of weeks ago. I have to keep reminding myself to watch the road. Thanks again.
