Gentlemen of the TDRoundtable,

Who among us would be interested in an adjustable EGT warning light? The EGT gauge I have in my truck is the most important and the most monitored and as such I have the instrument in an A pillar mount. When running loaded (towing) EGT is fairly easy to keep track of, but when un loaded and on the smoke, things happen very fast and I find it harder to monitor the EGT. I have not worked out the details, but if there is enough response I will send off a letter to Autometer regarding the feasibility of such a retrofit to existing gauges and to the possibility of a stand-alone system. (Another hole to drill and tap in to the manifold?) Or using the existing T. C? I am sure this can be done as Autometer has a system they call Tri-Alert which can be hooked up to any of the 90 deg sweep electric gauges they offer and will trigger warning lights at any point chosen. The EGT gauge I have is a 270 deg sweep ultra-lite so I assume the Tri-alert will not work with my existing gauge. I would appreciate any comments, ideas or thoughts on this and if you are, in any way, interested please speak up. Pardon the long post.

Thanks
Andrew

I iknow the ISSPRO digital I used to have had an output for a warning device. It was adjustable too. I always thought a buzzer would be cool.

Sounds like a cool idea. A tri alert would mosy likley work with the EGT gauge but as much as i hate to drill another hole in my exhaust manifold, its the best way to go for installing an alarm. This way if the EGT signal box were to fail or a wire broke loose somewhere, you have a complete independent system for the alarm. This would most likley be important on an ISB with a lot of fueling mods where EGT's can get to a dangerous level very often. Then again, if your truck is mostly stock and you rareley if ever tow like mine, you would never have EGT's at a dangerous level anyhow, so a redundant warning system using a seperate Thermocouple is overkill. So i would go for one using the exsisting EGT setup on my truck.

I don't think using a separate probe and wiring. You would never know if that probe/wiring went bad. If you use the same probe, you could tell that something was wrong if the gauge quit working.

I have one already, the SPA digitals have a programmable light built into the guage, one for boost and one for EGT. They also have 2 more programmable outputs that can be used for other things too.
