Does anybody know how to wire up a warning light to go on when EGT's hit a certain temp I already got a gauge but would like a light for when i'm not really paying attention to the gauges. .

1996 ram with autometer gauges

Go to isspro.com and download their catalogue, then go to page 31 and see part number R6326. It provides for a two step warning , first a light then a buzzer. Shadrach

Check with Howard Durand. If you know a little bit about electronics you can build the gaget for a few bucks. I have plans to do that and include some transmission controls. Other things to do right now, so it's on my to do list. Howard is running a similar gadget that he built on his truck now if I am not mistaken.

Wow, that Isspro switch is quite expensive. I didn't look too far but, for that price, it should include a pyrometer and EGT gauge.

I have a Westach EGT gauge and a special pyrometer that has an ungrounded tip so that it can be used with an electronic circuit that is referenced to ground.

I assembled a voltage comparator circuit that samples the pyrometer voltage and when it reaches a set value it lights an LED, warning of approaching high temperatures. There are two separate circuits in the comparator which allows it to be set for two voltages. Mine is set so that when the EGT reaches 1100*, it lights an LED.

At 1250* it picks up a small relay and disables overdrive.

Since I had to change pyrometers so I could use this device, I decided to replace the single EGT gauge with a dual gauge and use both pyrometers. One in each chamber of the exhaust manifold. This provides a backup in case one of them fails.

The dual gauge was a little over $100 and the ungrounded pyrometer was about $75. The components for the circuit probably less than $25

Yeah I Ain't no rocket scientist but I figured there had to be some circuit that could activate a light when a certain value was reached on the pyrometer wiring. If you got a parts list or something I would greatly appreciate it

I'd be happy to send you a drawing of the circuit I use along with a list of all the parts needed. It does require a pyrometer with a grounded tip. My gauges and pyrometers are all Westach. The pyrometer for the alarm circuit is grounded, the other is not.

If the pyrometer you are using is grounded on one of the wires the circuit will work.

It is fairly easy to assemble and it has proven to be reliable.

One caution here. If the pyro you use has a different voltage output than Howard's then the resistor values in the voltage comparator part of the circuit will have to be changed. No big deal but you need to check that before building the circuit.

Yeah post the drawing send it whichever is easier. My dad was into electronics and taught me some stuff so i should be able to figure it all out. I'll send you a pm with my email.

Thank You

Anyone wanting a copy of the EGT Monitor circuit please send me your mailing address. I use TurboCad for my drawings and I can't seem to be able to get a decent copy when trying to post them here.

I'll send along any other information that I think you might need.

I have been trying for 3 days to attach a drawing JPG to this thread. None of them have been readable because they are too small. I finally got one big enough to read in e-mail but the forum will not let me load it. It keeps trying to load a previous file even though I have deleted them from my file of attachments.

I give up.

I can send e-mail copies to those who are interested.

Howard

You sure did,

I have been trying to get the thing posted but the first attempt was basically unreadable. Further attempts were thwarted by the process. I am not sure why.

I use TurboCad to make my drawings and I can't seem to get a good transfer.

They print out beautiful on paper but posting here using the file is a problem because it posts it too small to read.
