I bought an Edge CS to monitor my engine. I've made no changes to the engine, just interested in watching. I had a probe for EGT's installed too. Now I'm watching the numbers range from 800 to 1100 or 1200 (when pulling). At what temperature should I be concerned? I've asked this in another section but haven't received an answer. One person that I talked to said that those temps would melt aluminium heads??? If the engine hasn't been altered I can't see the temps being an issue? Am I wrong?

The 6. 7 see's higher EGT's than a lot people are used to. I have the EDGE CTS. Temps in the 1300's are common towing in the mountains, nothing has melted yet.

Not as far as I'm concerned. The Cummins and Dodge engineers tested and retested the thing, and it has computers out the wazoo looking after it. For what I paid for this thing and the warranty coverage that goes along with it, my approach is to leave it stock, hitch it up and work it. If it breaks, Dodge can fix it or replace it.



Even though my previous rigs have been BOMBed, I haven't even thought of buying gauges for this one. Sitting and watching the EGT on the 6. 7L would only bring on stress that I don't need.

Your engine has a cast iron head, but aluminum pistons. Where is your probe mounted? pre turbo in the manifold, or post turbo in the elbow. You will likely see some temps around the 1400* mark during a regen. What you are seeing sounds like you have the probe in the manifold where it should be and your temps seem normal. With the probe in the manifold, 1400* is safe during the regen. The pistons in these trucks have alot of internal cooling going on with them.

I see 1400 alot in regen , but I see 1300-1350 all the time in the mountains or in any heavy pulling. Mine has a tuner but saw the same thing without it. I would not worry if I was you.
