I have yet to see the EGT gauge read anything less than 275 except when the truck is just started. Driving the cold truck 1/4 mile to a stop sign and subsequent idle it reads 275. Should I be seeing temperatures less than 275? Based on the forum searches I've done it would seem that many are seeing temperatures closer to 250. Maybe the calibration in the gauge? I did read about the gauge being calibrated at, I think, 72 degrees and any difference from that results in slight changes in the indicated temperature.

After a moderate drive and one minute idle the EGT's are 300 which I'm going to use as my target temperature for shutdowns but I'm curious if I should really see any readings less than 275.

EGT at idle is highly influenced by ambient temp. The trucks I have been involved with average about 300F at idle. The EGT guage is probably more accurate at it"s high end anyway so I wouldn't worry too much about it's low end accuracy. JMO

My A/C makes about a 20*-50* difference in idle EGT.

My persoanly truck, without Grid Heaters, and with a PDR-40/18cm idles @325*F A/C ON, and 300-275*F A/C OFF.

HTH,

I live in Alaska and when the outside air temp is about 40-F my EGT temp at start up is about 200-F after truck is up to temp and run and stopped it is about 200-230-F I agree that this has to do with the temp outside.
