Competition BOMBING a CR vs. 24 Valver Gen 2

O. K serious question here. For all you guys out there on the strip , pullin' sleds , and kickin' ashphault and takin' names EXACTLY how hot is hot for how long. I mean with all theese mods and whatnot we jam into theese things what really is the no-no heat for someone with all the go fast stuff that never had the head off , bottom out , just pure bolt ons.

I got to thinkin' this the other day after a hot (To me anyways 1575) run on the highway after getting a slurpee from 7-11. I got all sortsa que'd up from a spaz in a benz and shot on the highway from 20 up to over a buck and let her coast all the way down a wicked long hill down back to 280 when I was done spankin suit-boy. Then I got to thinkin' Man what do the serious guys do for heat? What do you guys do to keep it in check . . or out of check for BTU's

So C'mon with it how hot is Caliente for you pullers , runners , and getters?

Yeah but without studs and such

never had the head off , bottom out , just pure bolt ons.

I would be nervous of added cyl pressures ontop of what is allready there. But for guys that build em to go quick . . like you RD how much relief can you expect to see? Again this is real world stuff and questions here not so much ads , commercials and whatnot just real life experience.

I havent looked at my egt's while pulling since last year.

But when I had my smaller sps66 in there I was maxing the egt gauge early in the pull (it maxes around 1700).

I agree with Duallie, Nitrous or water :D

When i pull i bury my pyro that goes up to 1600 Deg. the needle just goes right to 6 o'clock :-laf

with my stock turbo - I had 150hp sticks and when racing I would peg my 1600* gauge by 50mph and my time was 13. 97@96 so I was at 1600*+ for 9-10 seconds. - made probably 20 passes like that - when I pulled the head to o-ring it for the twins I had just the slightest scoring on the #5 Cylinder wall! Its so slight it won't cause a problem but those temps are pushing the limits!!!

Now that I have twins I'm running lots more fuel and pyro is at 1400* after a 0-110 run!! street driving I never see more than 1200* and that is with a stock head, motor. , etc- all bolt on's except for o-rings and head studs

I know the 3rd gens and some of the 24V 2nd gens have the oil squirters to hit the back of the piston to help keep the piston cool. Some have put coatings on the top of the piston for insulation.

Kind of hard to give you EGT info Tim but I do know when my truck hooks up from say a 60 hp roll in 3rd to the top of 4th (120-130) the EGT's are barely stable at shut off. The last time I did this they were like around 1900 as best as I could glance. Boost was at 62 and power was around 850 as a guess.

I don't pay much attention to EGT's anymore, I pay more attention to what direction it's headed.

1575 is right about where I would start letting the clutch out... .....

I think they will handle 2500 for 10 seconds... . don't quote me on that.

in my sig with the 150's and the phat shaft when i went from southeast indiana to alamagordo NM my temps run about 750-850 running 80mph. When i hit Dallas Ft W. it was like a light switch, somebody shut off the air because the temps started going upwards they went from about 800-900 and the farther southwest the higher from 900-1000 and the turbo llllaaaaaaaaagggggggg was terrible. Id say about 10 hours driving like that.

I feel for the guys out west.
