Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 6 speed problem

Well I got myself a set of gauges and put them in my truck, I just installed a #11 plate with a straight pipe exhaust and a K&N filter.

I made a few runs from 60 MPH to 100,

Every run truck went to 32 psi boost and egt's went to 1200

I have the EGT probe pre-turbo, is this normal or am I getting it to hot?

Also I hooked the red wire that comes out of the gauge that is suppose to go to 12v+ to a "always on" 12v + , is this ok to do? I hooked the probe wires up the way they are suppose to be but the instructions did not say to hook the 12v to a switch 12v.

I have Autometer sport-comp gauges!

thanks

Remember, I DID NOT have a load on the truck, it was just me and I firewalled it and held it wfo for about 15 secounds. I got a #11 so I didnt have to worrie about egt's , now i am getting concerned!

I dont mind breif peaks above 1250. I have seen 1557 peak once while keeping it WOT with a 8k load. but most of the time its under 1000 while crusing. I have a #10 full forward.

As for the wiring, you may want to use a "switched on" circuit for power so that the gauge is not on all of the time and draining your batteries. I used circuit tap adapters on the dash light circuit (dimmer) and the cigarette lighter circuit (switched on) in the fuse panel. They were about $8-$10 each.

As for pre-turbo temps, with the mods below I can only reach 1100* towing a 3500 lb boat up the mountain pass @ 70 with about 15-20 lb boost.

if anything, let the boost come up to 35. after 35, you're just making heat.

1200* is perfectly fine. i've maxed out at 1800* at 7200ft. and will full power blowing through the stock converter at about 2900rpms i can hit 1700* at sea level. it hasn't hurt anything yet. it's alright to hit high numbers for a couple seconds, but you're going to hurt (melt) the motor when you're pulling a long hill at 1500*.

When I first installed my #11 I was only able to reach 32 psi doing unloaded full throttle runs. Running uphill with a load I hit 37 psi, which according to Mark at TST, is what I should be getting.

I just pulled a long steep grade with my 26' Weekend Warrior in tow. I had 37 psi and 750 degrees post turbo. This was full throttle in 4th gear @ 52 mph. I attribute the safe egt's to the Psychotty Air II. I also have my plate moved . 030 forward of stock. I was more concerned with the coolant temp which was rising quickly towards the 230 degree mark. I crested the grade before it got there.

I would consider getting the boost to 36psi or so... You definitely have the fuel for it. Above that, and you are out of the hx35/12's efficiency range. It just might get the egts down a little, but I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I have a 96 with a #11, 16 cm housing, foam air filter in stock box, and a 4" exhaust. I can easily hit 13-1,400 degrees in the manifold by kicking it down at 60mph and holding it til 100mph.

My plate is slid forward a little. They say 1,300 deg is safe for continuous running if your coolant temp stays down so I don't worry about spiking it to 1,400. Like the other day when i had to show a couple of punks in a Jetta what diesels were all about;)
