I've got a 600 on order. I've been brousing the forum for a few weeks and need some help understanding a few issues.

1) If trying to minimize EGTs, what are the best means of reducing them in priority order. I'm thinking I'll spend my $$$ on fixing it before it is a problem when I but a box on my rig. Help.

2) As an old drag racer, I curious why I don't here anything about cylinder head mods. Not an issue for diesels? Would it reduce EGTs? Who does it if anyone?

3) Once I get my EGT house in order, what buildup mods would you recommend. I looking for something that will be in the 400hp RWHP range and that will helpful and reliable for towing, which is why I'm getting this truck. My 600 will have 373s and 48re, FYI.

Your help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I'm just getting into this gig.

The 600's come with a 4 inch exhaust so I guess that you don't need to worry to much there. . maybe get a different muff put on to let more air through. Next would be BHAF to let you engine breath a little better. . every thing you do compliments the other mods. Then I would get gauges to monitor all your various temps and boost.

As for performance chips I would wait for Edge to come out with their box for the 600. They have been a great company to work with if you ever have problems with one of their products.

These mods are on the light side compaired to some of the people on this sight. You would need to upgrade your turbo with some of the boxes out there or if you wanted to add injectors.

Just my thoughts on that. . I still need to get the BHAF put on. soon I hope :D

I wonder if the 600's 4" system breaths about the same as the 555's exhaust because of the cat?

Been considering asking for someone's take-off 4" system so I can pull the cat and have a nice 4" system for close to free.

If anybody's interested, PM me.

This was my first post,... I must ask dumb questions or something. I thought a group with all this knowledge might just have some info to share with a newby.

Geez, chill out will you? I was actually going to respond constructively to this thread, but after this comment I think I'll refrain for now.

OT sent me a PM apologizing for being a knucklehead. So, for whatever it's worth, here's my input...

If you put on a fueling box, it's true you'll eat up some EGT margin. But you'll only enter the "danger zone" when you're really into it, and in that case all you need to do to reduce it is let off the throttle a bit. EGTs as high as 1400 can be tolerated for extremely brief periods of time. But, by your questions I assume you will be doing some drag racing, so you may need to take more proactive measures to keep EGT stable for the entire 1/4 mile run. To accomplish this, you'll want a larger turbo, minimize exhaust restrictions, and minimize intake restrictions. The better the engine breathes, the more manageable your EGTs will be (and you'll get better power). Of course, oversized injectors will be required, and you'll want to consider propane and/or nitrous.

Cylinder head modifications are not common with these engines. I'm not sure there are even things like oversized valves and high-rev springs available. That isn't to say the engine wouldn't benefit from this kind of work, it's just that the drag racing market for these trucks is much smaller than the towing market, for which cylinder head modifications are generally not necessary (fueling boxes and larger/multiple turbos are sufficient).

At 400 rwhp you're going to need to upgrade the 48re. There are a couple different shops that can do this work, ATS and DT come to mind. You'll also need to install an aftermarket pusher pump.

Of course, there are lots of people on these boards who have done all this and much more. Practice using the search feature, and you can find people much smarter than me to answer all these questions.
