Crazy EGT

My probe is mounted pre turbo in the exhaust manifold, and I am getting this strang feeling that my EGT's are way too high. I will accelerate onto the freeway, NOT WOT, and my EGT's will hit 1150-1200 if I accelerate to 80 MPH. It seems to me that with no fuel, TST off and BDDL off, the EGT's go up even quicker. I have not changed my air filter in a while, and I am running a cat and no muffler. Could this be my problem? What else could cause high EGT's? Or are they normal?

Thanks,

Chris

That don't seem unusual with a silverbullet turbo and no fuel I would bet that your boost numbers are low also. It could be a pluged cat

Big turbos on small engines, need some heat and air flow to make them work. With your fueling ON no problems right? I would pressurize the charge air system to be sure you aren't leaking to be sure.

With fueling on EGT's climb pretty quick as well. It just seems like temps are climbing a lot faster (last 3 months) then I remember. I have not thrown any low boost codes, so I don't think I am leaking anywhere. Is it possible to have a boost leak and not throw codes? Plus, my boost is normal. It's not like I don't have any boost, which leads me to believe my system is charging fine.

I end up with CTD owners hangin out at my place a bit,I have always said and still do,,,,,,,,,,if I put my pressure rig on a truck I will find a leak. :-laf The leaks don't have to be big to drop a bit of performance or add a bit to the temps. You won't hear a leak unless it is massive. It won't trip a code normally either.

I have an adapter I plumb into the charge air system to pressurize the entire system from the turbo to the engine. I have a regulator on it to adjust the pressure to find the leaks be it small or large. What ever you use remember anything under pressure can let go so be safe... ... ... .
