Hello Everyone, this is my first post as I just subscribed to TDR yesterday. I purchased my truck about a month ago, and while I was impressed with the power, I knew there was much I could do to unleash its full potential. So far I have put pyro and boost gauges along with the Edge Comp. I can't begin to explain the difference, those of you who own the Comp know what I'm talking about. A couple of days after I installed the box, I noticed that the "EasyMind" airfilter reader was at 65%, so I began shopping aroud for an AFE filter system. My next purchase will be an exhaust system, and I am looking for some insight on different products. From what I have seen, BD, Bully Dog, Banks, and Jannetty all offer 4" systems that claim about the same performance improvements, but what do you all think? Sound is an issue as well: I don't want to blow out any windows, but I do want a more authoritative sound than stock.

I like the Walker 21471 muffler for good tone; it's reasonably quiet and virtually zero restriction. Check your vendors to see who can supply that muffler with their kit. BTW, Diesel Dynamics also has a 4" system. There may be other vendors too, I'm sure others will mention them. . .

I've got Rip's exhaust on my truck. Main reason I went with Rip's is he is only 1. 5 hours from me, and he had the best price. I think the main difference in the various exhaust systems in what muffler they use. If it's mandrel bent, it's pretty much all the same.

FYI- Here is Rip's Site

i've put several posts on this subject, and have found J. Jardine's exhaust to be the best out of the box, it is also the smoothest flowing and most user friendly. The quietest exhaust i have found is Stan's exhaust with an Allied and a Donaldson muffer together.

Keep in mind that stainless steel will not rust out. However if you don't plan on keeping your truck long, get the most inexpensive unit. I figure, do it right the 1st time.

Big A

Don't waste your money on stainless. They want double the money and after about 20K miles stainless and aluminized looks the same. Also most aluminized kits, (J Jardine for sure) offer a lifetime warrenty the with purchase of their kits, so u can't go wrong.

Bullydog

Have had their system on for two years and it still looks good, sounds great, and absolutely no drone that other systems can have. The guys at bullydog are great to work with. Very helpfull to the newbies and the know-it-alls.

oh yea the price is very reasonable

Right now you can't beat the 4 inch Jardine system that windsor fox is selling right in here the classified section. $397 and free shipping, and from a TDR member too! What most people forget is these kits can weigh 90 pounds, the shipping costs can kill you.

www.windsorfox.com and click on ram diesel exhaust on left center page, they have a dyno chart to show increase

I notice that Windsor Fox site lists the mfg. as Jardine of Calif... .

Is this the same Jardine exhaust outfit out of Dubois Wyoming?

There is NO mention of lifetime warranty on the Windsor Fox site.

I'd say Janetty's or Diesel Dynamics exhaust is the better sounding of all the exhaust system you can buy. Just my opinion after hearing plenty of them, I had the Janetty 4", currently have Bullydog 4". Diesel Dynamics in general is louder then the Janetty system. If you build your own system have fun tuning the sound :)

I haven't been real pleased with my Jardine system. Here's why:

1. NO instructions, and while it wasn't too hard to figure out most of it, some guidance would have been helpful.

2. Different rear hangers for different years, and I must have gotten the wrong one. To be fair, I bought my system from Schied Diesel here in Lafayette, and it was already there when I bought it, so it could have been for a newer (24v) truck and they didn't catch it when I walked out the door with it. I called Jardine with questions and they said to go back to Schied, which I did, and while I came out of there with a different rear hanger, I am still not convinced it is the right one.

3. I don't like how mine exits out the back because it is lower than the stock exhaust was. Again, to be fair, my truck has a goosneck hitch in the bed with two pieces of angle iron uner the bed running between the framerails. The happen to line up exactly where the bend is that goes over the rear axle. The first time I drove with the system on (and not having a rear hanger) the exhaust rattled tremendously on one of those peices of angle iron. I've got it worked out, kind of, but this might be why mine exits lower than I think it should.

Maybe this is picky little crap, but just some things to think about. I don't mean to talk down the Jardine system, I think any system I would have bought would probably had the same problems, that just seems to be my luck. I don't know, but it does SOUND GOOD.

I have a complete Jardine system and am completely satisfied with it. I have also heard from others that they like their's. Install is a breeze, takes longer to get the old off.

Stupid question BUT... .

When everyone mentions a 4-inch exhaust from turbo back on a stock hx-35, I am guessing the downpipe switches from the 3. 5 inch to 4 inch by the end of the pipe, thus allowing for a 4-inch exhaust? Sorry but I just wanted to be sure before I ordered something. thanks.
