Does Any one have an electrical fuel pressure gauge mounted in the cab? If so, where did you find it and how hard was the install?

I have tried searching, and have not had any luck finding an electrical gauge that has a 0-15 psi range. Best I could find is 0-100 psi. Lots of mechanical 0-15 psi gauges, but I would rather not have that in the cab. Truck is still stock so I don't need much.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Genos Garage sells a 0-16 PSI unit from Westech. Egauges sells VDO units that are 0-30, both are electrical. I have a source for a braided steel line with the fittings to go on the VP-44 directly with no modification. I'll have to ask him first if he is willing to get more of them. I highly (not that I am an expert) a fuel pressure gauge and exhaust temp. gauge. Email me if I can be of help in locating parts for you.

Autometer makes a 0-15psi Electric fuel pressure Guage in 4 different styles. go to www.autometer.com and look there.

Here are the part numbers for 2-1/16" size(the size that fits in A pillar and dash pods, they do have larger sizes too) 0-15PSI Fuel pressure gauges.

Z series: 2661 Black Bezel, Black face.

Sport Comp: 3361 Silver(Or black for $3. 00 extra) bezel, black face

Ultra Lite: 4361 Silver bezel, silver face

Phantom: 5761 Black bezel, white face

They also offer custom ranges, just give the a call.

I used an oil pressure gauge (happened to have one laying around) and it works fine, doesnt say oil just a funny little symbol

Why isn't 0-15psi enough??

EMD

Why do you feel that a 0-15psi gauge is too low? I've never seen anyone post over 15psi readings. I sure don't want to spend $200 on an electric if it's not totally suited for my needs. :(

That being said, are you saying that I could ask Autometer to make me a 0-25, or whatever range I wanted?

Isspro makes a 0-30psi, but it's mechanical with no isolator offering. I had been leaning to mechanical, but some say they are "noisy", so now I'm leaning to electric???

If you are not planning on adding a Pusher Pump (which i am) then a 0-15psi gauge is fine, with the pusher pump though, my fuel pressure will be about 20psi.

Autometer will make custom gauges, but the setup charge for the silk screening can get expensive, its best to find some other people to get them too and split the cost.

I currently am running a 0-35psi mechanical boost gauge (which i re labled "fuel pressure"). I spoke to Autometer and they said it was fine to use any of there pressure gauges for diesel fuel. I am not using an isolator, just braided stainless steel hose and AN fittings. It has a minumum burt strength of 2,000psi so 20psi of fuel is no problem. Even a leak poses no danger. The isolator setups are really designed for gasoline applications where a leak could be a serious problem.

I got a complete kit from www.smokindiesel.com that included the gauge, hose and fittings, all pre assembled. Install is simple, nothing else to buy. Give them a call.

Geno's had a 0-16 gauge, but the tech said they have not found a good place to put the sensor on the 2000 and later models due to the redesign of the fuel filter assembly. He thinks they hook up directly to the pump, but thinks the vibration will ruin the sensor.

Any suggestions about where to hook up the pressure sensor on a 2000?

You can remote the sensor off the engine to keep vibration down. A grease gun hose works well as it is oil resistant and hi pressure.

Just installed my boost and fuel pressure gauges yesterday. I used the Autometer 2-5/8" size Pro-Comp guages. The wire from the fuel pressure sending unit was long enough to let me position the control box for the gauge inside the cab behind the gauges. I don't like pillar mounts and since I have a manual trans I just removed the cubby hole thing from the dash and mounted the gauges there. All my gauges are out of sight from other vehicles.

Auto Meter Boost Gauge

I received my Auto Meter 0-35 PSI boost gauge from Fast Lane West. Got a good price ($40. 00). Looking inside, it is made with all brass components. All the gauges I use as a contractor and in the factories I work, use brass component gauges. I have work with some pretty complex equipment worth millions of dollars. After looking inside of the gauge, I believe there is no problem using it for diesel fuel pressure as long as you do not exceed the working pressure. I am thinking of adding a pusher pump as a percaution for when the lift pump to fails. I am going to mount the gauge in the piller. I don't think diesel in the cab is that much of a problem. I plan to put a cut off value in the fuel gauge line in the engine compartment. If there is ever a leak, I can just turn off the line. I think EDMDIESEL is on the right track:cool: so to speak. I will have my set up done in a month or so if I get the time. I just wish the gauge was labeled fuel pressure. I am going to take apart the gauge and relabel it "FUEL OIL" where it is labeled "BOOST" with a P-Touch label maker. I will post when all is done. :D
