I want to get an Electric Air compressor and some how run it off the truck. The one that i have found is 120 volts. Do you think that i could buy a big enough inverter that will run the air compressor. Also do you think that it will be to much of a drain on the truck. This seems to me like it would work but i am just worried that i might mess something up. The Air compressor that i am looking at is 1500 watts and i have found and inverter that can run that continuously but i am just worried that my truck wont put out the Amps that i need.

Thanks

Trey

I was going to try the same thing.

I have a air compressor that is 12 amps @ 120 volts starting. My 2500 watt (22. 5 amp) honda would not start it? I went to the honda dealer to see what would start it. 3000 watt would not, 3500 watt barely would, not till a 4500 watt would it start correctly.

Be careful, starting wattage IS NOT running wattage. I think they figuer 80% of maximum capability is safe load. MY attempt showed that it took a WHOLE lot more than I thought.

I decided to get a long extension cord and plug it in every few days.

I can figure out why the 120 compressor in the truck??? But I put a TRIPPLITE 2000W inverter in my trailer and it has about the same air compressor as you described. It will start and run that one no-problem, it will also run the roof top ac unit. I have it feed by two batteries, and I would imagine you would have the truck running while using the air compressor. Hope this helps.

allright y-knot, now you've dunnit. Exactly what compressor? Exactly which rooftop a/c, exactly which batteries? I NEED heat in the winter AND a/c in the summer. And soon I'll be but deep in snow and no good answer yet. Don't want to have to idle the truck all the time for heat and a/c. OTR PU is in the shop, blew a head gasket under load in wytheville, va. Anyway got it back to Angola and DOC Dave's Diesel, is putting back together. I'm running the F350 now for loads, my opinion, it's not the hauler my Ram is. But. . . it's running.

Cheers,

Steve J.
