Cummins/518/205 into 79 K30

I do not have enof room for the stock cooling fan. so Ill halft to use electric fans. There is about 2 inch's between the radiator and the front of the engine. I can fit two, three or foure fans in there but I was woundering what would be roung or the pros and cons with puting the air condencer behind the radiator and putting the cooling fans between the intercooler and the ratiator?

He has:

93 3/4 CTD,250,000 miles. 87 3/4 ton 4x4 wih 93 12v CTD,NV4500,NP208,GV-OD. 4. 10 gears.

Why no room for oem fan? Unless you stuffed a ctd in let's say a dakota or durango or somethin.

Well I must not be clear enough about this. I'm stuffing the CTD out of the 93 dodge into my 87 3/4 4x4 Suburban. As far as the fans go thanks for your help but after searching all the forums I could find, I desided that I was compromising the potential of the engine!! That what it's all about, I need the sub for the wife and kids pulling he travel trailer but I was very disappointed in the 6. 2,6. 5 diesel gm uses. I love my other truck 93 dodge 3/4 diesel with automatic. So I want the beast of both worlds. When I started this I swore that I was not going to cut corners or just get by. So to bring you up to date. I was going to bolt the cummins to the TH400 that came in the truck, well after doing a lot of reading I found that with 4:10 gears and a 1st gen 12v engine that I would be pushing 2500 rpms at 67 to 70 mph Even with me GV,OD:( So I like the manual trans any way, well After reading about the Gertrag that was out of the question. I went shopping on the web and ordered a re-manufactured NV4500 with the up dates and a dodge cummins input shaft and th rite adapt. and out put shaft to bolt up to my NP208 transfer case. Then I proceeded to put it in for fitting and cutting and fabricating and changing thangs I never thought of. So far I well say that the most frustrating thing is is he wiring!  I am a electrician and have wired everything from residential to NASA equipment and no one does any thing his poorly. If any body working for me loomed any thing likes under my dash I would fire them!!! next in line as putting a clutch where their was none!! After a lot of thought I decided it would be better to find and pay the price for used clutch hanger and pedals. Thank god for Ebay!!!!:D :D :D Putting it in was fun:mad:   So the engine is setting in the truck, the power steering, and Hyd booster are hooked up about 90% of the wiring is done (not checked) I worked all day on the frountend so I can move the radiator fowred so I can us the stock fan! Im going to move the condenser, no room between the radiator and enter-cooler. but all the hoses line up and look good. I guess Ill start on the exhaust next. I still need to bolt the transfer-case up to the transmission and have the drive shaft's lengthen and shortened. I have been tacking a lot of pictures and Ill get to putting some of them up soon.

Rebuild your core support to fit the biggest radiator you can jam in there. Don't even think of using electric fans, engine driven is the way to go. Build yourself a good fan shroud and be sure to have no more than 3/4" between each heat exchanging device (radiator, intercooler, condensor) to ensure proper air flow. You'll kick yourself if you don't use the engine driven fan...

i run a ford taurus 2 speed fan, and at 85 degrees in the city with my stock m715 radiator the fan never, NEVER comes on.

I have 2 electrics in my 96. So far I really haven't had to use them very much, even on the few hot days we've had up here. If the temp gauge hits 195, I turn on a manual switch and it cools down to 170 right away. One thing that's nice is that the A/C stays COLD at a light. My fans were from a couple of 88 park ave's. Camaro's have a different motor - shorter, like a pancake motor. Would I hook up to 15K and pull it up a 10* incline out of Death Valley? No... but it works for my situation.

edit: I have a temp switch to wire in with a manual override in side.

What model an year is the TAURUS That has this 2 speed fan??

Did you use there switch or the temp control. . etc??

THANKS... ... ...

Ok. Let me rethink this. If you don't plan on pulling heavy in 105+ degree heat up long 7% grades, electrics will probably work just fine. I sometimes forget that we experience some rather drastic circumstances in the Southwest.

I'm going to attempt (emphasis on the word ATTEMPT) to use a 3300CFM Zirgo electric fan(biggest one I could find!) in the conversion project in my sig. This will be with a custom-made PRC aluminum radiator and a Ford FlowerJoke intercooler. The water jacket sensor switch is set to turn the fan on at 200 degrees, and shut it off at 185. I have no idea whether or not this will all work, but I DO know that there was no room for the OEM clutch fan to successfully fit in the front of this project (as it stands right now, the intercooler is going to be about 1/4" behind the front grille. )Not only that, the orignal fan/fan clutch ass'y got all bent up when the donor truck was wrecked. Oh yeah, no AC on this setup either, for numerous reasons (no room to mount a condenser in front/it never had a dashboard-mounted evaporator to begin with/the rooftop unit and the Kohler genset are more than capable of keeping the inside cool. :D )

I'll let you guys know how well it all works/doesn't work once I get it all put together and running.
