I'm growing impatient of having a hole in pillar pod where ISSPRO promised me a 30psi electric FP gauge would be by mid February:mad: ... ... ... Shame on them:( .

I've decieded that functional gauge is better than worrying about the asthetics, so I'm searching for another option. I know that Westach makes one, Autometer makes some real expensive ones and Stewart warner has a few offerings as well. I tried the Nordskog unit but had problems with the 0-100 psi digital gauge reading anything below 15psi.

Are there any other offerings out there that I've missed??

Mechanical gauge Kev, the only way to go. Just buy a another boost gauge identical to the one you have and use it for fp.

Westach can provide a dual combo 0-30 psig fuel pressure gauge that looks just like their combo EGT/boost gauge. You can monitor pre-filter and post-filter fuel pressure and only use one spot in your A-pillar mount.

Bill, It's probably what I should do, I know many of you are doing it, but I'm still concerned about a leak in the cab of - antifreeze, diesel whatever:eek:  :{ .

It would make life easy, ISSPRO already makes a matching 0-30 mechanical gauge in their EV line.

Get the mechanical ISSPRO FP EV.

Easy install but make sure to run a good quality hose. I would not recommend using the SS braided steel lines b/c the line transfers sound into the cab. Go with high quality plastic tubing.

I too was waiting for ISSPRO to make the electrical FP but decided the mechanical was cheaper and reliable. To many people with the electrical gages have problems with the senders malfunctioning.

can I really do this ??

my autometer is junk and I cant find any fp guages to match even closely to what I have

( using autometer phantoms)

Agades, sure you can, quite a few folks have. Only problem is your fp gauge will say boost on it. Some crafty folks here have even figured out a way around that. 30 lb boost gauge is best for a 24 valve, 40 lb for a 12.

coooool

do u use the little vacuum hose or a different hose ?

I guess if leaks were a problem the boost guage would not be accurate for boost either . hmmmmm

I just use boost tubing pushed though an outer protective sheath of 1/4'' tubing to protect against kinks and abrasions. A needle valve like this one at the beginning of the line is good insurance is case of a leak plus you can crank it down almost closed if the gauge buzzes or pulsates. Some folks like to use stainless braided hose or isolators, I feel it's an overkill for 15 psi but that's just my opinion. Don't overtighten the compression fittings with ferrules, that's what makes leaks, finger tight plus half a turn with a wrench is plenty.

... There is a principle called "Achum's Razor" It states: "The simplest solution is generally the proper one. " In my opinion it applies in this case...

I bought the Nordskog digital from Summit. $86 buck with the sender and cup. Mounted it on the shift console, because I don't need to look at it on the pillar all of the time. Sender is mounted in the engine compartment with 6000 psi grease gun hose to the fuel filter top. It is good for up to 16 psi, and has high/low memory.

I like to bleed gauge lines to make sure they read accurately. That would not be something you could do with one in the cab. Also, I like a fuel pressure gauge to say "Fuel Pressure". :D

Let me echo Illflem. Mechanical is what you want. I have a 30psi mech gauge from Hewitt, but a boost gauge works too. It may be a little more involved to set up, but you can't debate their superior reliability.

I think the mech gauges are easier to setup, since the only wiring you have to do is for the lighting.....

I disagree. High quality plastic? Perhaps an oxymoron. I have braided stainless and my gauge is silent. No noise, zero nada. . I think the ultimate solution would be to use socketless hose. It's rubber, cheaper, and leak-free. I don't trust the nylon sealing method-- it can leak too easily.

my opinion, YMMV.

Why I trust the nylon tubing -

1) after six years it has proven itself to be compatible with diesel.

2) I use the exactly the same tubing to supply the low pressure cut-off switches on irrigation pumps, some run as high as 150 psi, no problem even out in the sun.

As long as you don't overtighten the ferrule type fittings they're leak free and reliable.

As far as noise and buzzing coming though the tubing it seems that some 24 valves transmit more noise than others, don't know if it's how close the lift pump is to failing or some sort of back pulsation from the VP. Most 24 valve fuel pressure systems are quiet while hardly any 12s are.
