Does anyone know much about putting a electric fuel pmup on 1st gen . Best kind or 2nd best , is it cost effective or is the manuel one just as good?

we put a small carter pump on the lil reds eng when it was on the eng dyno and never ran out of full or lost press so on a first gen I dont see any need for the electric pump jus tmy two cents George

Why mess with a good thing, we second gen 24 valve guys would love to have a mechanical pump instead of our unreliable electric one. Just curious as to why? Or are you just looking for alternatives?

I put a electric pump on my 92 , right in the same place the factory one was at . I did it because I was tried of putting a new lift pump on every year . If I ever go back to the factory lift pump I will get one from Cummins . I have had the electric pump on the truck now for about three years now with no trouble .

elect fuel pump

Just looking around for something different know real reason. Heard a few guys talking about mech pump going out thought maybe electric mite be a good shot O well maybe not.

Plandon, As the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it. " These old mechanical pumps last a long time. Of course there is good and bad exceptions in all things. I have several TDR member friends with newer trucks that are on their third electric fuel pumps before 50,000 miles. I have talked to others with the mechanical lift pumps that have over 200,000 miles and up. New modifications are not always the best. Its just hard to beat the OEM parts for these older trucks. Just my two cents worth.
