I've seen 'em in J. C. Whitney. Anyone tried 'em? Vacuum units stick at wide open throttle due to too much vacuum from the Cummins vacuum pump.

Hasn't ANYONE installed a cruise control that works on a 1st Gen?

I am in the process of installing one at this time. It involved getting one off a '93 with cruise and tilt. The biggest problem is getting the ECU for the same unit! The newer ECU has its advantages over the earlier ECU in the way of intake heater temperature on-off and wait to start times. Lots of wiring retrofit. I do not mind the wiring nightmare, as a matter of fact I enjoy these wiring puzzles, but my time is limited and I have not had a chance to get it done. I will let you know any progress in the future. The JC Whitney units I have seen work OK, but are on the primitive side and were susceptible to moisture, dirt and mud. I think they work well on cars but have a little trouble on trucks that are more in the elements.
