Okay gang, check out my latest brain-fart.
Like most BOMBers starting out, I have thought some on the HX40 superturbo. As I understand it the main drawback to this turbo is the loss of low RPM boost, which has been said to cause loss of drivability around town.
Now about 6-9 mounths ago I saw a Horsepower show on TNN (still ain't as good as Sam-n-Dave) that had a new part they talked about. This was an Electric Supercharger= no belts. At first i thought nothing of it because my engine already had a turbo. I have since forgotten the name of the manufacturer and all my searches have turned up zilch.
My idea, if I could find this sucker, is to hook it up to the compressor housing on the turbo, in line with the exit to the intercooler, blowing over/through the fins of the turbo. This way, the supercharger could provide a few more pounds of boost earlier on in the rpm band. One of our electronic wizards could set up a box to cut it on early and moderate the output so the turbo could take over around 2000 rpm or so. Perhaps a butterfly valve could close at a set turbocharger boost to provent blow back into the supercharger. The Boost gained would probably only be on the order of 5-7 lbs. , but it could all be added when it is needed, earlier.
This set up, if possible, would be like adding the HX35 and HX40 together to get the good qualities of each. Think of it, low exhaust restrictions with early boost!
I take on no responsibility, I ain't no ngoneer, i's just a tinkerer that likes power. Maybe some one out there has heard of this supercharger or can investigate better than I could.
See what comes from insomnia!
