My truck (01 ram auto) had a trailer brake control in it when I got it. So I did not hook it up. I hooked the skid loader trailer up to it and I have no trailer brakes. I know the brakes on the trailer work. How do I test my system in the truck? It looks like it is hooked up with the factory wires. The brake controler might not be workings or it a wirering problem ??? Any help would be great!! Thanks

Most controllers indicate if they're properly connected or not. The first step would be to read the manual and adjust the controller for your trailer.

The simplest way would be to have someone press the brake pedal or push the manual brake control on the trailer brake controller and use a test lamp or multimeter to measure 12 volts at the seven pin receptacle at the rear of your truck.

The factory Dodge seven pin receptacle has a label on the cap indicating what each pin provides. Look for the trailer brake pin and see if it is hot when brakes are applied.

If you're adapting the 7-way down to a 6-way make sure you get the correct adapter... ... there's two diffrerent ones that have the center pin for e-brakes or an outside pin.

there should be a little light on the brake control that's green when you have a circuit and red when the brakes are on, if you have power to the plug then your truck and the trailer are wired differently, one has the brake wiring in the center which is the brake and the other has it on the side which is acc, just figure out which one you want to switch
