Hi guys, I wanted to let all of you know that my younger brother owns a 92 4X4 standard cab. A couple months ago he pulled into the local mall parking lot, shut off the key and bailed out to go into the store. As he closed the door he realized the darn thing was still running, and there he was with the keys in his hand. He had to take it in right away of course. (ok he should have noticed it was still running sooner but he had just put in a 14 hour shift at plant).
The Chrysler dealer took it in and after some searching discovered the following. .
A large bundle of wiring that is routed along the firewall and passes BEHIND the brake booster had been chaffed right through several wires. These had shorted out and caused the thing to run on. After a week, $1500. 00 and lots of frustration it was fixed. The dealer actually went to bat for him and Chrysler PAID!!!!!!
The dealer told him that they were now going to check all 1st gens. to see that the wire bundle was protective wrapped and fastened up above the booster so that the booster mount would not cause this on others.
I have checked my 93 and the wiring has that heavy plastic flexwrap and it is above the booster.
CHECK YOURS !! unless you have extra $$ that you don't need.
