Ok heres the story, my dads 04 3500 will be driving along and the warning chime will start going off and some times its the intake heater light thats on other times its the lamp out light, the volt meter nevers moves to indicate that the heaters actually working and there are never any lights out. I suspect there is a short in the dash some where, any ideas where to start looking?

How many times does it chime? 10 chimes and the grid heater light means there is a fuel return problem and the computer thinks it is bypassing to much fuel. Pretty much indicative of needing new injectors.

Does not light the check engine light and does not typically set a code. The WTS light usually stays on though.

Ok the WTS light goes off as soon as the chime stops, and some times it chimes and throws on the lamp out light, which also goes away as soon as the chimes stop

Has the ECU been recently flashed or a newer release of Smarty SW been loaded? Dodge put out a "fix" around 2012 that try to detect injector failure. The 10 beeps with and without WTS light is the SW saying it found a problem but it doesn't always throw a code. When I had the problem on my 06 I replaced the FCA which solved the problem. I was willing to spend $125 before buying new injectors for $3k+ especially since I had less than 100k miles on them.

If it's a return flow issue you might try just re-torquing the cross-over tubes.
Doesn't cost anything and you have nothing to lose.

Try running some injector cleaner such as Diesel Kleen or ATF. Or possibly doing the Sea Foam in the fuel filter cleaning and see if that cleans up the problem.
