My 01 HO is about dead. I was recently experiencing some rough running and replaced the apps with the one from Tim. No help. I have the old catcher and gauges. I found the pcu codes: 0463, 1693. ecu: 0217, 0606, 0342, 0117, 0112, 1488, 0562, 0522. The fuel gauge code (0463) and the 1693 I understand as I have the catcher and the fuel gauge has not worked for about 2 years. I am mystified as to why this thing is running so poorly. I just took it out and it looked as though I never drove a stick in my life! You press the accelerator pedal and nothing happens and then it revs to 2 grand and your foot is off! The cruise light is flashing and the temp gauge is all over the place even with the engine off. Is there a bad ground or ecu/pcu pin not fitting issue? I don't know what else to look for. Help please.

The most serious codes is 606 =ECM failure internal fault code detected. Which means your ECM is toast.

The rest are related to sensors

117= Engine Coolant tempature sensor voltage too low

112=intake tempature sensor voltage low

562= Charging system voltage too low

522= Oil pressure voltage too low

217= decreased engine performance due to engine over heating condition

463= fuel level sending unit volts too high

342 could not find

all these other codes mite mean your PCM took a dump.

Hmmmmmm. Could be. The truck was running F I N E up until a few miles ago. It would just stumble and buck very slightly going down the road. Not missing or anything, just like random hits and misses with the gas pedal.

I initially unplugged the bats and reset the apps w/o any luck. Then I did the bats ( with the key on) again and unplugged the ecm and pcm and then reset the apps again. No joy. Got the new apps from Tim and installed it per his intructions and it seemed to get better for a minute and then totally dead pedal. It starts just fine and idles fine, but won't run on the road.

I'm thinking there is a short somewhere like the 5 volt input or the ground to the ecm/pcm and all these codes are just "sympathy codes" for one bigger problem. Like I said, the thing starts and idles just fine.

Frustrating to say the least. Maybe I'll call Bob Wagner in the morning and get his input. I'm going to try really hard to not take it to the local rapists.

Any more ideas? I've got the factory manuals but they only work so well.

Anyone have any ideas about how to check the 5v in and the ground for the ecm/pcm? I wouldn't think that this would be something you could back probe without damaging the harness.

Just stick the multi-meter probe into the back of one or two of the sensors connectors effected(has a code) and see if it getting 5 volts (truck should be need to be running, at least have the key in run position).

Also your probably in limp mode.

I'm pretty sure it is not in limp mode. It wants to run however there is just something not quite there as if the apps is randomly functioning. I drove it earlier and it did just fine, just a couple of hiccups was all before the deadish pedal. So, it will make boost and power, just randomly as if there is a short or something. As far as the sensors go, i'll have to check them. The codes that say the sensor is "bad" I believe are erroneous as they are being fed false information from the ecm/pcm. The sensors and gauges are fine in my opinion, just a bad connection somewhere I guess. I hate this hide and go seek electrical bs.

Goto RadioShack and grab some TV tuner cleaner. Take off all the plugs to the PCM and ECM, and hose both sides down. Reconnect and see how it runs. Trace down as many grounds as you can and remove+clean them with a wire brush then reinstall.

good luck

Thanks, I was actually going to try that! What do you think about electrical contact grease, as well? I have a hard time believing that the issue lies in the ECM as opposed to the actual wiring harness. Thanks again.

Haven't had a chance to work on it yet, but I had to move it the other day. It stumbled during start and then idled well. Pedal input fat first yeilded nothing. Then slowly it would build revs to redline and go back down if you held the pedal long enough. Just real slow to respond. And the temp gauge is pegged hot from startup. I don't know what gives. It almost certainly has to be electrical from the way this works. i dunno... ...
